I enjoyed parts of Women's Murder Club, and I can see how fans of the books/TV series might really love it while it lasts.Mostly a seek-and-find with a few puzzles and some Q/A gameplay (testing your memory of the case and logical skills) thrown in the mix, the game had a lot of potential. I liked some of the more original seek-and-find prompts like "find all of the objects that could be used to strangle the victim." But the game often doles out one seek and find objective at a time, and sometimes you can find this one item immediately (in just one or two seconds), so the pacing of the gameplay is clunky and disjointed.Even when you're given a short list of items to find, you can often find all of the objects in a minute or less.In all of the game modes, no matter what you do, there's absolutely no penalty for doing anything wrong. So if you ever do forget something about the case or can't figure out what the game is asking for, you can just keep clicking (guessing) until you get it right. In my book, that's a bad thing, not a good thing. Throughout the game, you spend most of your time clicking through dialogue with no actual real interaction or gameplay, which gets tedious. There is some bonus content, though you do not have to beat the game to unlock it.It's all available from the beginning.First, there's mahjong. It's just your standard solitaire style mahjong. If you don't already have another version, it's okay, but it's not in the same league as Mahjong Quest/Quest Trio.Second, if you have a DSi, there are these sort of mad libs-style cases that you can do.You are prompted to take photos of different things/people, and then it works those photos into a little story. The stories are quite silly, but I guess some people might enjoy this.It might be fun if you're stuck somewhere with a group of friends.
Overall, I found WMC way too easy with lots of mildly interesting (and sometimes silly) dialogue to click through but not enough actual gameplay, and it took me only 2 hours and 10 minutes to beat the game.If I'd paid $5-$8 for this one through DSiWare, I'd be okay with that. For a $30 retail game, it's a total ripoff.
