All Pro Football 2K8 Review

All Pro Football 2K8First off, I am not a 2K fan boy, and DEFINTELY not a Madden fanboy.Know that this is my FIRST 2K football game ever.I never got a chance to play NFL 2K5 as I was still playing Madden/NCAA 03 at the time. After being disappointed with Madden/NCAA for the 2003 release I skipped over the 04 and 05 editions, and because it was so late in the season I decided to skip NFL 2K5 as well, planning on getting NFL 2K6 the following year, but EA changed that and I was stuck with the EA football titles for the foreseeable future.I decided to give EA one last chance, and they failed again with Madden/NCAA 06.At this point I decided I was done with EASports and since they had the monopoly I figured I was done with football games for good.

Then 3 years later 2K decides to get back in the football gaming market and I was very excited, finally a choice in football gaming again and true football fans wouldn't have to be stuck with EA's monopoly.

I picked this game up recently, in fact a couple of days before I got my XBOX back from Microsoft.I was finally able to play one game last night, and I must say I am pretty impressed.

When you first start up the game, you are instantly prompted to build you own team, there are no predefined teams on this game so every team you use, you have to create them from scratch. You are allowed 2 Gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze rated former NFL players to build you team. The rest of the team is filled by generic players. You have over 240 former NFL players most of them being all-stars during their careers. Some notable names include Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young, John Elway, Reggie White, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and Williams "Refrigerator" Perry. While you might recognize many of the names included in this years release, you will also notice some missing, some right of the top of my head are Howie Long, Michael Irvin and Jim Kelly. That is not to say the list provided is disappointing, 240 players is plenty especially considering 2K had to individually sign these players.

After you select your players and choose the generic players to fill you team, you are taken to a screen to select your city, team nickname, logo, and stadium and after your done, you then go into actually editing your teams uniforms all the way down to how many stripes the players' socks will have and the color of their shoes, helmets and face masks. You can even change the colors of the team's logo. There are tons and tons of different combinations you can choose and this can be very long and drawn out considering how much you care about how your team uniforms (home and away) look on the field, but the game already has predefined color schemes so if you just want to get to the action, you can skip this all together. If you do decide to edit your team, then just know the menu is very cumbersome and admittedly not very intuitive as it should be.In fact it took me a while to figure out how to change my team's helmet colors from white to black.

After your team is created it is saved and you are ready to go.You are then taken to the game's main screen where you can either choose to play a quick exhibition game against one of the computer created teams or go into season mode.I just wanted a quick game so I just choose a quick match in my home stadium.

The first thing you will notice about the game that these are not truly Next Gen graphics.Even in HD at best they look slightly better than HD regular XBOX games. But believe me there is much more to a game than jaw dropping graphics, and I found that out after the ball was kicked off in my very first game.As soon as the ball was kicked off I knew that this was going to be a football game like none other I have experienced before.First off the players move realistically.I hadn't noticed and robotic like movements of them running like they are trying to make it to the bathroom before they have an accident. The tackling animations are also quite more realistic than I have seen in other games. There is real gang tackling here and not anything like the "hey, I'm going to hold you, while my teammate comes and hits you" crap. There are no sled animations or seeing receivers skate to the ball either.Even the sidelines have animated players that react to plays on the field and attempt to get out of the way if they see a player out of control flying towards them.Other times, they'll step in and grab him to stop his momentum.

The game plays like football is supposed to be played. No longer can you back up 30 yards and throw 80 yard bombs all day, because chances are you will be sacked or more often than not your pass will be knocked down if you're lucky.Your linemen block who they are supposed to block and don't miss an obvious block just so they can go block a free safety 15 yards away who is not even in the play to begin with.On the defensive end of the ball players react well to both the run and pass.Don't expect 20+ yard runs on every single possession, if you do manage to get a long gain you better believe the D will adjust incase you try that crap on the very next play.In the running game you have WORK for your yardage, you have to find the hole and hit it hard.If you just dance around in the back field you WILL get your bell rung.Take a hole and go for it.Passing is also quite realistic and very rewarding when you complete a long pass play on 3rd and long. The defense reacts pretty well to the ball and will knock it down if they can't quite get two hands on it.If you throw in double coverage too often you will pay for it, if your throw is too late or too early the D will knock it down.As good as the AI is on both sides of the ball, I never got the feeling that it was "cheating" like other games I have played in the past.I remember in the said game, I would be running for a first down, clearly beating the defender and all of a sudden he makes a dive for me at the wrong angle and then while in MIDAIR, he body changes direction just so he can stop me; this is not the case in APF2K8, if you have a man beat you have him beat, and the only thing he can hope for is that he has enough foot speed to catch you.Another thing I used to hate on the "other" game is that when my defender had the perfect angle on a guy going towards the end zone and I will dive towards him clearly expecting at least some contact between my defender and the ball carrier only the have the game take over and cause my guy to dive in the complete opposite direction of the ball carrier.I can't tell you how frustrating that was!But that is no longer the case in this game, if you have an angle and time your hit right, you will at least make contact with the ball carrier getting him to go down is another story if you are dealing with the bruiser gold/silver/bronze star RB's.

Another thing I like about the game is that the halftime show shows actual video highlights from the game you are playing and the same is true for the post game show. While the commentators start getting repetitive after a while, its still good to go back and see the big plays of the game without having to rely on your saved replays all the time.Other things I like about the game are the stadium mascots that do various things after the home team makes a big play, if you are the Assassins and score a touch down, the giant hooded "assassin" at the end zone will perform a stabbing motion, if you are the Firebirds the bird will squawk and flap its wings, there is even one team that has two battle ships that shoot off its cannons! In addition to this the crowd always seems to be in the game, you make a big play they respond with ecstatic cheering, if you make a stupid play, then you will get booed....loudly.Another final thing I would like to mention is that if your XBOX is online while you are playing a game, you will get up to date sports tickers from the real world of sports.Even though it really does not add to the game you are playing its still a cool feature. It's nice always being in touch with the real sports world while I'm playing video games.

As much as I like the actual game, there are handful of flaws that are disappointing and one that is downright frustrating.First of all if you already didn't know, there is no franchise mode.So the team you create for offline play can only go through one season and that's it.No continuing to a next season, and no tracking career stats etc.The most you can do is take that same team though the same team again with a slightly different scheduled, or just create another team all together. In addition the Season mode itself is pretty limited. There is not even an ability to "watch" other games that your team is not playing in, and even more, you can only bring ONE of your created teams into season mode. This was a disappointment, especially for someone who primarily plays offline 99% of the time.I've tried online play before with other games, and if you have read my last reviews you will see that I am not a big fan of online play, playing people I don't know, most of who are cheesers, whiners and glitchers. The only time I will play someone online, is if I know them in real life. The lack of franchise mode bothered me, but not enough not to get this game.I have always heard 2K made the best football games, and if APF was anything like the NBA 2K series, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed in the game play. The other limitation is a big one, even bigger than the lack of franchise mode in many ways. You are only limited to creating 8 teams in the game, meaning that at any one time you only have 8 teams to choose from as you can't play with any of the CPU's teams. This is not a big problem in itself, because I would have expected some sort of limitation on the amount of teams you could create.However,...Read more›

Professional Bull Riding: Out of the Chute Review

Professional Bull Riding: Out of the ChuteWhen I first heard about this game I had very high expectations. As an avid PBR follower I was very excited. When I got it, at first I was a little disappointed. It seemed too simple. But, the more I played and figured out the more fun it became. The simplicity didn't change but my involvement did.If you are looking for something complex this is not it, but if you are a fan of the PBR then this is a great game that is easy to pick up and play for 10 minutes or an hour.If you are wondering whether to get it or not, please do.Hopefully if enough people support this game they will come out with an updated one in a year or so that will be a little more complex, maybe one that will offer more riders, bulls, venues, and have a little more substance to it.Overall, not a bad start though.

R: Racing Evolution Review

R: Racing EvolutionR Racing Evolution is a terrificly neat game for the true racing game fanatic.Sadly, a lot of people will miss out on the R racing experience if they listen to what the uninformed idiots who write for the gamming magazines are saying about it - it seems the 'Need for Speed and Midnight Club' crowd find this game a bit too challenging.Unfortunately the reviews being written are being penned by general gamers - individuals who don't know the difference between a rally car or a prototype sports racer - (and don't have the decencey to admit they know absolutely nothing about drving a race car). This is a game with a great diversity of cars, a few really good tracks(Suzuka,Monaco,Phillips Island,a Very cool Targa Florio like tarmac/dirt track where you can run even the Bentley Prototype - and other less well known and imaginary circuits) and literally hundreds of different racing and time trial challenges which are huge fun - fairly challenging and beautiful to watch and analyze on replay. All the cars handle uniquely and can be fine tuned with an array of tuning and setup tools which really work nicely. The vintage and rally cars are a bit tricky to master at first, but there are built-in handling quirks particular to these cars which one begins to appreciate and understand after really playing the game. The rally cars can be drifted like no other car currently on any other racing game!.The vintage cars understeer and slide about as if on skinny tires - just like the real deal. The prototype Audi, Bentley and Dome are masterful creations of driving simulation and are gigantic fun to rocket about in. My only criticism is the races are generally too easy (even set in most difficult mode). But there are so many different driving activities to be enjoyed, this is a game which will have a place in your driving library for a long time. For max enjoyment one must use a Logitech force feedback wheel - preferably the new GT4 wheel with heavier and more precise feedback.

Eragon Review

EragonGame type: Linear 3rd person
Genre: Action fighting
5 star rating system
Graphics 3Fun 5Story 4Replay Value 2Overall 3

Let me start off by saying that this game is good, not great.I was actually pleasantly surprised, because I asked for this game for CHRISTMAS after seeing it on the xbox website. To me it seemed like one of my all time favorite orig. Xbox games LOTR 2 towers. Then I read the reviews before getting the game and was horrified.Maybe I was surprised because I wasn't expecting much, but I found the game to be fun and have that familiar satisfying combat system that I loved in LOTR.You learn magic as you progress and it's awesome being able to push, pull, use fire, and fire magic arrows at enemies. There's a good mix of fighting and puzzles here.at times you must figure out where to jump, climb, and or shimmy and use magic to build bridges.

The dragon levels are a sore spot in the game.Lack of camera panning is a cramp, but dealable.True, this doesn't offer a lot of replay value and is shorter than some games, but actually about average for this type of game (not every game is going to have 100+ hours of game time like Oblivion). This may not be your bag if your more into sandbox style (GTA, Saint's Row) games. As I grew up with linear games I find sandbox games aren't my bag. I say it's a solid rental for players who enjoy linear story driven offline play.

What I generally do is pick up games used on ebay or Amazon and resell them when done.I generally break even, sometimes even turn a profit.

Good gaming to you all,
Stang05driver

Motocross Mania 3 Review

Motocross Mania 3Rant:
What the F**k is goin on with games these days? I know what the hell the PS2 is capable graphic wise but latley alot of really new games seem to be goin back to graphics that seem little better than the original Playstation! all the crap about haw xbox has the best graphics is bull$h!T if you look at the quality of some of the games out on Ps2, it looks like bill gates has thretened sony into making crappy games looking games so that the x box can live up to its balony reputation!
Review:
For the money 16 bucks this game is a smash. Its basically a mx racer road rash style> it allows hard core battle in the air and on the ground (with an sweet array of weaponry) its got enviroments from desert to city street, and even one course in the midst of a battle feild! And it included a 'time dialation' style mode for maximum combo action damage.
Cons:
>Game was too short
>graphics so~so
One last gripe:
Why are there so few games (atv(blagh!)and MX included) that the in game physics will allow for filps and barrle rolls this is one reason that Mx 2002 is still the king for Ps2 bike games! hoping that MX vs. ATV will allow this but have not checked it out yet!

Women's Murder Club Games of Passion Review

Women's Murder Club Games of PassionI enjoyed parts of Women's Murder Club, and I can see how fans of the books/TV series might really love it while it lasts.Mostly a seek-and-find with a few puzzles and some Q/A gameplay (testing your memory of the case and logical skills) thrown in the mix, the game had a lot of potential. I liked some of the more original seek-and-find prompts like "find all of the objects that could be used to strangle the victim." But the game often doles out one seek and find objective at a time, and sometimes you can find this one item immediately (in just one or two seconds), so the pacing of the gameplay is clunky and disjointed.Even when you're given a short list of items to find, you can often find all of the objects in a minute or less.In all of the game modes, no matter what you do, there's absolutely no penalty for doing anything wrong. So if you ever do forget something about the case or can't figure out what the game is asking for, you can just keep clicking (guessing) until you get it right. In my book, that's a bad thing, not a good thing. Throughout the game, you spend most of your time clicking through dialogue with no actual real interaction or gameplay, which gets tedious.

There is some bonus content, though you do not have to beat the game to unlock it.It's all available from the beginning.First, there's mahjong. It's just your standard solitaire style mahjong. If you don't already have another version, it's okay, but it's not in the same league as Mahjong Quest/Quest Trio.Second, if you have a DSi, there are these sort of mad libs-style cases that you can do.You are prompted to take photos of different things/people, and then it works those photos into a little story. The stories are quite silly, but I guess some people might enjoy this.It might be fun if you're stuck somewhere with a group of friends.

Overall, I found WMC way too easy with lots of mildly interesting (and sometimes silly) dialogue to click through but not enough actual gameplay, and it took me only 2 hours and 10 minutes to beat the game.If I'd paid $5-$8 for this one through DSiWare, I'd be okay with that. For a $30 retail game, it's a total ripoff.

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010 Review

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010I've had this game since the 17th, and have already maxed it out on achievements. This game is definitly an easy achievement game, a lot easier than 07, 08 or 09. If you're interested in a quick 1000, this could definitly be up your alley.

I will assume most people looking at this review have played at least one of the last 3 year's games (07,08 and 09). Having played all of them, I can easily say this is the best in the series. They made a ton of tiny changes, that make the game more realistic (More reversal animations, leap-frogging or ducking a running opponent, red marks on your chest/back after taking a Ric Flair-patented chop).

What's better this year in comparion to '09? Well pretty much everything. There's nothing '09 had '10 doesn't that makes a difference. The gameplay is almost identical, yes so much better with the addition of the tapping out system, the flipping bodys over. The only thing I miss about '09 was the two-button reversal. ('09 had a reversal system where LT was pushed to reverse strikes, and RT to reverse Grapples. Now pressing RT and timing it correctly will reverse both).

Create a superstar is SO MUCH BETTER. Looking online to see creations that were up, I saw "The Flash" from DC Comics fame, and it looked identical. Suicide from TNA was also found, and again that was almost identical to the real life version. I know I'll be having fun with this feature, months down the line. The loading times are almost gone entirely too.

Road to Wrestlemania bothered me a bit. They basically took old storylines, and added new twists, and remade the cast. For example, Edge's RTWM is a re-hash of the "La Familia" storyline that took place last year, however instead of it being Vicky Guerrero, it was WWE Diva Maria. The stories aren't identical, there are new changes, and new twists, but I already saw this storyline. I wanted something ENTIRELY brand new. There was a lot of "Holy crap" and "LMAO" moments. For anyone who doesn't mind playing through old storylines with new twists this isn't a problem. The stories aren't half-bad at least.

The soundtrack to the game has most of the WWE superstars tracks, but it does have a few songs that were very good. For a true WWE fan the soundtrack is perfect.

The videos in the game, like the opening cutscene to anybody's RTWM is crystal clear. Amazing quality, as are the entrace videos. These literally blew me away.

Scramble matches, intergender tag matches, Divas can now play pretty much every match type, interfereces were some nice new additions as well. I was surprised and happy to see unlockables in the game such as THE ROCK, and TRISH STRATUS. However dissapointed with pointless characters like the Red and Green dummies.

Lastly, the biggest mode in the game. What most were waiting for. The addition of Create-a-storyline. I do not believe this is as User-friendly as they wanted it to be, but once you start learning what to do, this will be the most used feature in my opinion. Not as many choices concerning promos, but for a first year attempt this was amazing. Hardcore WWE fans will go nuts over this. Now that I've maxed it out in achievements, I will be spending my time making stories, and putting them on youtube, in between matches with my other WWE-crazed fans.

Many people complain that any game that has a yearly installment is a rip-off. Not many changes are implemented, and that it's basically a $60 roster-update you're purchasing. I've heard this said for MLB, NBA, NFL games as well. With Smackdown 10, it's nowhere near the case. If you liked '09 in the slightest, or just felt that it had potential, well 2010 is what you've been waiting for.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box Review

Professor Layton and the Diabolical BoxI picked up Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box because the last game was so popular, but I hadn't played it - it's on order now, after playing the Diabolical Box!

The graphics, music and looks of the game are wonderful with mini movies and cut to's that are of great quality.

The puzzles which are around every corner and nook are great - some are more difficult then others and for the most part I have solved the ones given - hint coins that are found throughout the game can come in very handy.

I found this to be a relaxing game compared to Henry Hatsworth which I have been playing but is frustrating to me - this game is a true downtime game to be enjoyed - great story line and wonderful characters and interesting puzzles that will baffle you at times, but won't make you want to pull your hair out.

The characters are really cool - all of them so far that I have encountered are enchanting as is the game!

I can finally see what all of the fuss is about - the Professor Layton games are truly what the DS was made for!

In Wanted: Weapons of Fate, Warner Bros. brings the box office movie to the Xbox 360 platform. Like the movie, the game revolves around a centuries-old, secret fraternity of assassins that brutally executes people as dictated by the mysterious Loom of Fate. Your destiny is to become their ultimate weapon.

Close, hand-to-hand combat provides exciting game play. View larger.

Take out your targets by hitting an explosive object and creating a deadly blast. View larger. From Big Screen to Video Game
Kicking into action where the hit film left off, Wanted: Weapons of Fate lets you take on the role of Wesley Gibson -- a super assassin and the heir to The Fraternity's legacy of power. Your position has made you a target for a renegade faction of The Fraternity that is dead-set on hunting you down and killing you. In order to survive you must master an arsenal of deadly skills to protect the secrets of The Fraternity and turn the table on those who want you dead.
Bend bullets and Become a Super Assassin
This game employs plenty of mechanics that fans of the movie are sure to love. The most obvious example is curved bullets. During game play you can curve a bullet around objects or corners to hit your target. You can determine the curved trajectory of your bullet so it can bend around columns and take out multiple enemies in a single shot, or use this skill to hit an explosive object and take out your enemy with a blast.
Other cool game play features include a "quick-chain" cover to shield yourself and move through the environment with remarkable speed. The pace of the game and your assassin skills encourage close, hand-to-hand combat for even greater excitement. And as you hone your skills, you can even take down multiple enemies with sheer precision while using Assassin Time.
Meet The Heir
Wesley Gibson -- The Heir -- was once an insignificant nobody, but now he's the successor to his father's legacy as The Killer. After being betrayed by The Fraternity that trained him, Wesley took his destiny into his own hands and exacted his revenge on them all. Now he is surrounded by the destruction he caused with nothing but questions about his heritage, The Fraternity, and the Will of Fate. The answers he seeks are out there, but so is a bullet with his name on it.
The Assassin's Directory
The Russian is The Fraternity's cleaner. Known as Death's Janitor he is vulgar and perverted. He finds pleasure in things that others would find appalling. As the leader of the French Fraternity, The Immortal is not a villain -- he's a fanatic. he will stop at nothing to follow The Code of Weavers with an unwavering, unquestioning commitment. The Immortal is a supremely skilled assassin almost equal to that of The Killer (Gibson's father). Remorseless, it is not his fault that deaths occur by his hands, it is the fault of his victims for being "only mortal," and incapable of escaping Fate's Will.
Cross, also known as The Killer, is the greatest assassin that has ever lived. A member of the Chicago Fraternity, he is a true believer in The Fraternity's tenet of "Kill one, save a thousand." Although his name was never wove by the Loom of Fate, Cross discovered a secret in the Chicago Fraternity that made him the target of those who were once his allies.

Gun Review

GunNeversoft, the developers who brought the world Tony Hawk Pro Skater(and related) have FINALLY decided to bring the world a new Western genre game. I'm a fan of the Western Genre, but it's seriously lacking on all current systems. With the only other western game being Red Dead Revolver, Gun has no oppistion. Neversoft took a gamble on a completly different genre than the one they're used to, and, while they didn't lose, they really only broke even.

The game is solid. The gameplay, the story line, the voice acting and the charectors are all well designed. The only thing that suffers is the graphics, which, while not being bad, they aren't great. But the game suffers little from glitches, so what it lacks in beauty, it makes up for in seam-less play.

The game follows Colton, a leather faced, ornery looking man, who oozes cool like a fat guy with the runs. Colton gets in deep trouble, loses his father and has to hunt down a one eyed villian by the name of Magruder. The story is VERY good and you won't know where the storyline is taking you until the end. You actually WANT to know what is going to happen, a rare thing these days.

The game itself takes place in the old west. Now, the map isn't huge. Infact, it's a little smaller than GTA3's Liberty City, but the terrain and things to see and do make up for it. The side missions are fun, but there aren't many of them, and once you max out your stats, there's nothing to do, except start again.

But you can do things like hunt down wanted felons, taking them Dead or Alive of course. You can run for the Pony Express, be a deputy and clear out the lawless out of town, or, my favorites look for gold or hunt the great beasts. Looking for gold is fun, not to mention it makes you rich, and hunting is challenging and takes practice.

But these things end quickly, and when you finish the game, you'll wish there was more to do and more to buy.

The game is still solid and extremly fun. Using QuickDraw to kill your opponents is not only fun, it's essential and it's the only way you can kill a whole army of enemys in 5 seconds. Every feature in the game is fun and usefull, which is ALSO very rare these days, as most developers like to cram as many useless features into games as possible.

This game may be short, but if it takes off, it may inspire other developers to drop their Plasma Cannon's in favor of a revolver.

Brain Quest: Grades 5 & 6 Review

Brain Quest: Grades 5 & 6I got this game was on a special deal. Decided I had nothing to loose. It is great and I am sad to say I cannot just snap thru it. I do mostly brain games and have a desire to challenge my brain.

Well this does just that. I'm 53 and I do not get all the answers right. What they learn in 6th grade now is like what I learned in 12th grade. If you get a chance to add it for a few bucks you will not be disappointed.

It is fun in presentation and the questions are complicated. It's not babyish by any means. I am enjoying it. Once I master a game then I sell it back and let someone else enjoy it and I can get another challenge.

Great for 5th grade and up...up to 99. LOL

Have fun.

Terminator: Salvation Review

Terminator: SalvationThis game was pretty good.I'll get the complaints out of the way first.
First complaint,The game should have been titled "Terminator Loading" because there was a ridiculous amount of loading screens.
Complaint number two, it only took me about 4 or 5 hours to beat on hard difficulty and the game just came out today.I'll admit though most games aren't long enough to warrant the 60 dollar price tag so I kinda expected a little let down there.

Enough complaining. The game play was fun.You can instantly see some gears of war influence. Not saying it is quite as good as gears but it's the freakin Terminator.Sorry no Arnold and John Conner doesn't look like Batman.Big deal. The weapon choice is scant. To be honest most of them only tickle the enemies but they are war machines so it adds to the intensity of some of the fire fights. If you play this game play it on hard difficulty. You might throw your controller once or twice but it will make the game last longer.Sorry no online multiplayer.Split screen co-op only.Hope this was useful.

Terminator: Salvation is a prequel to the events of the major motionpicture of the same name. It is two years after Judgment Day--the date thatthe Terminator mythology assigns to the nuclear event that the machineswill rain down on planet Earth--and what's left of humanity is caught ina life and death struggle against that same machine intelligence that sprungto life from the former defense super computer known as Skynet. Yet thingsare not quite what the the earlier chapters in the Terminator saga had predictedfor these days. Although over the last two years human survivors of thecatastrophe have prepared and organized themselves for the ongoing battlewith the machines, John Connor, the character that the player assumes, hasyet to emerge as the legendary hero he was foretold to be, and time is runningout. In its early nuclear strikes against humanity, Skynet damaged partof itself. It has spent the last two years rebuilding its strength as well in orderto complete its mission of the extermination of the human race. Now is thetime to strike back at the machines. Now is the time for you and John Connorto take command.

Gameplay and Co-op Support
Action in Terminator: Salvation is from a third-person perspectiveand relies heavily on the use of cover. Correspondingly players will beable to lock on to cover, dive or slide from one cover point to the nextand fire weapons without exposing themselves to return fire, but thisdoesn't mean that combat is easy. Cover is fully destructible in the game, meaning that your mechanical enemies will attempt to take that advantageaway from you if they recognize that you are dug in. They will also makeevery attempt to flank your position. These two points are important becauseTerminator: Salvation forces you to take care of yourself in itssingle player campaign by not featuring a health regeneration system betweencheckpoints (health is fully restored at the end of survived levels). But healthcan be regenerated during combat via an AI or human teammate anytime whenplaying in the game's local co-op mode. The ability to team up in co-opmode is also a major aspect of gameplay in that it allows players to turnthe tables on terminator units by flanking them and attacking their lessheavily armored sides rather than head on. Both single player and co-opmodes also feature access to vehicles which can be battled from as well.

Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop Review

Dead Rising: Chop Till You DropPros:

+Improved control scheme
+Lots of ways to take down your adversaries; lots of freedom

Cons:

-Not a lot of detail, even for a Wii game
-Fairly bad voice acting and presentation of the story
-Poor AI from your allies

A couple of years ago, Capcom released Dead Rising on the XBOX360.It was a surprisingly good game that really showcased what the 360 was capable of at the time.Putting hordes of zombies on screen and giving you a million ways to play. The game has now been down scaled for the Wii to give people a new way to experience Dead Rising.

You play as Frank West, who has come to Colorado to get the story of a lifetime. If he survives, that is.You begin by being dropped off at a mall where most of the inhabitants have taken up residents. The ones who aren't yet the walking undead. After a series of events, the mall itself becomes overrun with zombies with few survivors to be seen. You have 72 hours to survive and get your story. But you're not just up against zombies.Throughout the game you'll run into survivors who have gone crazy.

The influence for Dead Rising obviously comes in part from Dawn of the Dead.Just the same, however, you're not getting much of a story throughout the game anyway. Most of the cutscenes push things along, and there are many things you must achieve in the story, but you're probably not playing the game for a compelling story. You're probably playing it because you want to massacre zombies. And there are a lot of ways to massacre the zombies you're up against.

In Dead Rising, just about everything is a weapon. From simple everyday CDs to a lawnmower, you can use just about anything you can find as a weapon to use against the walking undead. The game gives some balance by making sure you can't exploit a weapon.Eventually it breaks in some way and you can no longer use it.But you'll rarely, if ever, run into a moment where you've got nothing at your disposal. You also have guns for taking out the undead, but they're no where near as fun as mowing them over with a lawnmower or beating them down with a trashcan.Noticeable for the Wii is that the shooting controls are much much easier, thanks to the Wii Remote. It works exactly as it once did in Resident Evil 4.On the other hand, some of the other controls can feel a little limited. At the very least, however, it's a port in which the Wii controls don't feel tacked on.

There's more to just simply killing zombies. You do have a story to plow through. You'll run into other survivors from time to time who you'll have to plow through certain segments with.Unfortunately the AI of these survivors is pretty bad. It's a lot more work to keep them alive than actually killing zombies yourself.Unlike the 360 version, however, you don't have to worry so much about the consequences of failure. You might remember that the 360 version only gave you one save file per save device. The Wii actually gives you multiple saves to work with, and you might want to take advantage of itat certain points in the game.

You'll also run into crazy people, who serve as the games boss fights. These are, for the most part, thrilling battles. They can also be a bit tough, but gamers who played the 360 version will note that the difficulty has been lowered significantly in the Wii version. It isn't nearly as easy to die as it once was.If you're having trouble at any point, however, the game does happen to have a level up system where your health and power do actually increase.

On the 360, Dead Rising showed people what kind of potential the 360 was capable of.This isn't exactly true of the Wii, however. It obviously doesn't look as good as the 360 version, and it would be unfair to compare. But compared to other Wii games, Dead Rising could use a definite face lift.A lot of the environments look bland and boring. The game lacks detail overall, with blurry textures and details popping up every now and then. You also don't get any sense of how much danger you're in because the Wii isn't capable of putting several zombies on screen at a time.In short, Dead Rising on the Wii doesn't bring out the potential in the Wii.You can find several PS2 and Gamecube games that look noticeably better.Likewise, much of the voice acting and writing isn't all that great either.Sometimes it gets things just right. But many times some voices can feel a little overdone.

If you already have the 360 version, you might want to keep that one instead. It isn't exactly worth buying the Wii version just for new controls alone.Along those lines the game also took out certain gameplay elements, for example, taking photos was quite an important aspect of gameplay before, but for whatever reason, Capcom took this out of the Wii version. In short, the experience, despite some good shooting controls, just isn't as good. What it does better, such as the shooting and the multiple save spots, is worth noting, but it isn't something that'll make you want the game if you've already got it.

NHL 2K10 Review

NHL 2K10I absolutely loved NHL 2K9 (last year's release). Even though it had its quirks, I played well over a thousand games online and got more than my money's worth out of it. Please keep in mind that I only play online. I have never played another game for even a tenth of the time I spent playing NHL 2K9 this past year. The gameplay felt crisp, accurate and intuitive. So obviously, I could not wait for 2K10 to come out so I can get it going again since things had become slow on 2K9 once the NHL season ended. Got it the day it was released. Came home, popped it in... "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!"

First the MENUS. I know most of you are thinking, "Who cares about the Menus?", but these menus just plain stink. You would agree if you saw and had to use them! In 2K9 you had nice, clean menus that were easy to navigate and made sense. In 2K10, the menus are horrendous! 9 square blocks (think Brady Bunch intro) where you're on the middle block by default and have to press and HOLD a direction on the gamepad before pressing A to select one of the outer blocks. Let go of the direction before pressing A and you end up selecting the middle block. This can be very annoying, especially when you accidently enter the wrong menu item more than just a couple of times. Also, there is no longer an "Online Screen" (Team 2K Screen) where you saw the weekly rankings and past Team 2K winners. The weekly rankings alone made the game so much fun to play week after week and compete for a spot each week, all year long. They don't have weekly rankings anymore, got rid of them completely! The overall leaderboard is hidden somewhere in one of the "Extras" block. 2K Sports, if you're reading this, PLEASE bring back the weekly rankings for next year! And fix your servers so, unlike last year, they always work properly!

GAMEPLAY. Again 2K9's gameplay wasn't perfect but overall it was very good. Before getting to the cons for 2K10, let me say that there are a few improvements. First is you get to choose whether you want to initiate a fight which eliminates a lot of time wasting senseless fights (I've had 8 in one game!) that become redundant and boring. Second, the goalie is much more active and quite a bit better at stopping the infamous cross-crease cheese move from last year. Also, the physics of the player movements seem more realistic but sometimes it puts too much emphasis on them causing unnatural movement as well. Now let me get to the flaws. 2K10 gameplay feels SLOW, sluggish, and inexact. If you liked 2K9, you will probably notice this as well. There are numerous things that seem worst than last year but I will only discuss a couple that really hurt this game. One of the MOST annoying things, your opponent can poke check you from directly behind you and his stick will go right through your legs EVERYTIME, causing you to lose the puck without your player ever tripping, so no penalty for your opponent. I've played about 10 games online so far and people have already caught on to this. Very frustrating and annoying! Last year this would have caused your player to trip, the other player gets penalized, discouraging your opponent from repeating it. Another flaw is the fact that when your opponent has the puck and is coming fast towards your end, your defender(s) automatically start skating backwards up from around the blue line which is fine, BUT they don't come out of it even when you pick them and want to keep up with the opposing player! Your opponent will be able to zoom right by you as you are stuck, slowly skating backwards. This will very often create an instant fastbreak for your opponent and if it's with a player like Ovechkin, Crosby, Hossa, etc., forget about it, they will score 90% of the time if they know what they're doing. I can go on and on about things like this that really hurt this game but it would take way too long. Also, I think they didn't release a demo on XBox Live for 2K10 because the developers knew their product was lacking, even compared to last year, and it would have only discouraged gamers from purchasing the actual game!

GRAPHICS. Graphics seem pretty good especially during replays, as they did last year. However, if you've played a hockey game, you know that during an actual game you set your view to a zoom level far enough to see a good area of the ice which makes the players too small to notice all the nitty gritty details during an actual game anyway. Overall, the graphics seem good.

I would rate last year's 2K9 a solid 4/5. I rate 2K10 a very well-deserving 2/5. The game seems to have evolved for the better is very few areas but for the most part, they have gone backwards. If you're thinking of buying it, rent or play a friend's copy before purchasing. Unfortunately, in my opinion, 2K10 was truly a disappointment and I'll be selling my copy off today, just one day after it was released and purchased. Here's to hoping 2k11 will be better and release a demo next time!

Lego Star Wars Review

Lego Star WarsThis GameCube version of Lego Star Wars was released a full six months after the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of the game, an odd decision considering the frequently-assumed target audiences of the different consoles.Even so, this delayed port is nevertheless a very solid one, and gamers who have Cubes can pick this one up knowing it looks and plays just as well on this console as it does on the others.

Lego Star Wars is a game that is forgiving enough that children will enjoy it (i.e. a character who gets "killed" is simply resurrected nearby). At the same time, also has a few challenges that will give adults a share of fun.The game features a VERY large number of unlockables and extras that can only be completed by collecting certain items and collecting large enough numbers of the game's currency (known as bits). Some of the levels are not terribly difficult to beat - but can be challenging to beat with sufficient numbers of bits, some of which are lost when a character dies.

Of note, Lego Star Wars also has an easy-to-use cooperative feature, which is a great deal of fun regardless of the age of the people you are playing with.

The presentation of this game is outstanding. The graphics are beautiful and glossy and portray the "Lego" and the "Star Wars" both wonderfully. The cutscenes are funny and capture well the storyline of the first three episodes even though there is no voicework to speak of.John Williams soundtrack is here and the game even has the appropriate tracks for each level.Hearing that trademark "Darth Maul" anthem during the duel with the Sith is a real treat.

There are only a few drawbacks to the game. One, it's a bit on the short side - an adult could probably plow through the entire campaign in 6-8 hours. That being said, each level has hidden items and unlockables that are only accessible after you've beaten that level in the regular story mode, so there is a lot of incentive to go back. Two, a couple of the levels might actually be a bit hard for kids, such as the podracing level... perhaps all the more reason for an adult to sit down and enjoy the game with them.:)Finally, a couple of the platforming sequences have some odd camera angles that can result in excessive deaths the first time through, but this is less of a hassle considering the fact that it's impossible to die completely in the game.

Overall, though, this is one of those unusual games that is easily recommendable to both older Star Wars fans and younger kids... and is all the better if your household has both!

In addition to a single-player mode, there is a drop in, drop out two-player co-operative mode allowing a second player to enter or leave the action whenever they want. There is also a free-play mode where unlocked characters can be played in different scenarios to those of the films. This adds immeasurably to the games replayability and there are further incentives to complete the game for budding Jedi Knights in the form of hidden levels and vehicles. The world's most successful film series meets the world's most successful toy in the epic video game LEGO Star Wars. This brilliantly conceived alliance blends the unique world and designs of LEGO play materials with the unforgettable characters, stories and vehicles of the prequel eras of the Star Wars universe. Play the most memorable and exhilarating scenes from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and the forthcoming Episode III- Revenge of the Sith including pod racing on Mos Espa, the repelling of the droid onslaught in the Genosian arena and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon's fatal fight with Darth Maul. Teen Titans Review

Teen TitansI bought this game because it had Robin in it, and that was the only reason. I had never read or watched Teen Titans. I kind of expected this game to be kind of weird, and one of those that you play once and then put away forever.

But now, it is not only my favorite video game, but I want to start watching the Teen Titans TV series, too! This game is just so much fun, that I figure the series must be just as good!

You can switch between all five Titans (Robin, Raven {my favorites}, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Cyborg). Each one of them has their own unique powers that you must learn to master. The various levels are challenging, colorful, and very fun. Once you've beaten them you can go back on level selection and play them over and over again, which you just might end up doing. You can also fight against the computer or against up to three friends as the character of your choice in "Master of Games".

One of the best games out there. TEEN TITANS, GO!

Rabbids Go Home Review

Rabbids Go HomeI agree with the person who said that the first 2 reviewers gave this a 1 because it wasn't the mini game based thing that they expected. This game should be reviewed based on what it IS, not what someone expected it to be. A bit of research to know what you were buying would have saved you the trouble and would have saved this EXCELLENT adventure game from bad scores it doesn't deserve. As an adventure game, Rabbids Go Home is completely original. I've never heard of a game where you build a huge junk pile to get to the moon and thus go home. Or anything even close to that plotline. And you get there in the most crazed, fun, weird and wonderful ways you can hope for. One similarity there IS to the previous titles is the humor. The writing is once again clever and witty, with a lot of "What the....? YES!!!!!!!!" moments. The Rabbids are manic as usual, thank goodness! I've always thought their zaniness was the best part of the mini games. The game looks great too, they are really squeezing the Wii for all the graphical juice they can get out of it. The controls are much improved over previous Rabbids games, things are very fine tuned now and feels much more natural. All in all this game was amazing, I can't think of one single reason to dock any points.

Nerf N-Strike Elite Bundle Review

Nerf N-Strike Elite BundleA great shooting game that is appropriate for young children. Finding codes with the red view finder adds to the fun for kids. I thought including a foam dart launcher was unnecessary, but when my 9 year old was playing the video game and then asked if the gun could shoot real darts, I understood that the designers had done their research!

Playground Review

PlaygroundFor teens and older, I think this game will get tedious pretty fast. However, I was looking for a good Wii game with simple controls (single controller) to play with my younger children."Playground" makes an excellent addition to our Wii library of games and both the single-player and multi-player modes will get a good workout from us.This one is actually simpler than Carnival Games which I also recommend as a "kid friendly" game.

Basically, you wander around the playground collecting marbles and challenge other children to various games to earn stickers to place in your sticker book. Many smaller kids will find this feature quite appealing. My favorite games so far are the slot cars, paper airplanes, and dodgeball. All are simple enough (at least at the beginning) for most children to play. For example, tetherball is exceptionally simple at the outset. As you gain experience and skills, you will unlock more advanced versions of the games and new games as well. The game increases in difficulty as you progress.

As with most Wii games, don't expect stellar graphics quality. The Wii is aimed towards gameplay rather than graphics and this is another good implementation of the mini-game format for which the Wii is famous. One thing that does annoy me with the game is that although the text is in English, the children speak in Japanese. It's kind of cute, but for the price, I'd hope they'd have taken the time to re-dub the audio portions.

Overall, I think my children will find this enjoyable and challenging. This is a wholesome videogame that I can recommend without qualms.

Imagine Teacher Review

Imagine TeacherThis game lets the player practice being a teacher. In this game your character teaches at a new school, in a new town. When you first start you only have four students but as you progress thoughout the game you get more students.

In this game you teach the students different subjects such as: arithmetic, geometry, reading, writing, drawing, biology, history, geography, music, and pottery.
After some lessons such as arithmetic, geometry, reading, writing, biology, history, and geography it lets you practice correcting the students work.

This is a good game for anybody who wants to become a teacher, or is studying to become a teacher(like I am now) because I would like to become a teacher one day because I love kids.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers Review

Bakugan Battle BrawlersLuckily I rented this title from Gamefly and didn't buy it.My son is really into Bakugan so I know how the rules of the card/toy game go.This game has a big departure from the standard rules.Your Bakugan's G-Power really doesn't come into play much because victory is determined on how quickly and accurately you can use the stylus. The G-Power will give you an edge but you can't win a battle without doing the "mini-game" with the stylus (rubbing it back and forth quickly, tapping icons, or following an icon around a track). This eliminates some of the strategy from this game that is present in the card/toy game.Still... I found it mildly addictive but I can see that I'd get tired of it quickly.Kids who are fans of the TV show will probably love it because it has their favorite characters and their Bakugan. However, kids who play the card game will probably be dissatisfied because of the way the game departs from the rules they know.

The story of Bakugan: Battle Brawlers revolves around a set of metallic cards that mysteriously fall from space. One group of these kids, who name themselves the "Bakugan Battle Brawlers" and who are led by Dan, find that the cards also serve as a link to a parallel dimension known as Vestroia. Here they discover that the game and its monsters that they are dedicated to mastering is tied to an imbalance of positive and negative energy in Vestroia. Those who have played the popular Bakugan card game might alreadyhave an idea of how gameplay works in Bakugan: Battle Brawlers, but the video game adds several new elements. The game is somethingof a cross between marbles and a live action card game. To get startedyou'll first need to enter your name, select an attribute and createyour character. Then you'll be ready to explore the world of Bakugan. If you can't wait to start battling your friends, then head straightto the Battle Arena, but if you want to be the best you have to learnthe rules. The goal of Bakugan: Battle Brawlers is to win thegame by collecting three "gate cards." Gate cards are collected bywinning battles against opponents. As a starting move each playersets down one metallic gate card. Then you're ready to roll your Bakugan, which is in the form of a ball. After throwing you can steer yourBakugan around the environment so that it lands on the perfect cardand collects powerups. The aim is to get your Bakugan to stand ona card, and that happens when they roll over it slowly. Once the Bakuganstands, it will transform into Battle Mode. Now you're ready to battle.A battle begins when two Bakugan from different players stand on thesame gate card. The gate card then opens and both bakugan transforminto Monster Mode, and are ready to fight. The gate card can add "G-Power"to a Bakugan according to its world attribute (color) and can alsochange the rules of the battle. Players can also boost their G-powerby doing well in battle. The Bakugan with the highest G-power at theend of the battle wins.

After battling, you can also use the points you have won to upgrade your Bakugan, acquire new in-game items, engage in Tag Team or Battle Royale action, or hone your skills by practicing your moves and strategy with Dan.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Review

Harry Potter and the Half Blood PrinceIt is clear that when constructing the 6th installment in the HP video game series, the developers were extremely limited by the Wii remote. There are only 3 things that one can do in this game: Quidditch, Potions, and Dueling. All three are extremely boring and poorly constructed.

1. Quidditch: I started a flying session, set my remote down, and Harry flew through every single obstacle and caught the snitch. The game is already preloaded within a set path and you can't fly more than 3 inches away at any given time. Extremely boring.

2. Potions: It is fun to make a potion for the first few times but after the third time it gets tedious. The same movements of shaking the Wii remote and spinning it around in the air dominate this aspect of the game.

3. Dueling: Dueling is the best part of the Harry Potter game but it takes no skill at all. All one must do is flick the Wii remote as quickly as possible and he/she can defeat the opponent in a matter of seconds.

Overall I am extremely disappointed in this game. I have every Harry Potter game in the series and this is the only one that disappoints. There is no exploring of the castle or its grounds as one must stay on the path at all given times. There are more cutscenes than there is playing time. Every mission is either to duel, make a potion, or fly in the poorly constructed Quidditch pitch.

This game is a complete failure in every regard. I might have bought it for $[...] but absolutely no more than that amount. I recommend the last 5 games which were amazing and exciting.

Viewlarger. The Story
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the Video Game, Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was assumed to be. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information.

Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different, but equally unavoidable adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates. And then there's Hermione, simmering with jealously, but determined not to show her feelings. Yet as romance blossoms throughout Hogwarts, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

Gameplay
Like earlier video game releases in the Harry Potter franchise, the action in Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince the Video Game revolves around the exploration of Hogwarts and the action that results from what you uncover. The game features both engrossing single player and local multiplayer modes, as well as additional unique play features. During their adventures, players will have a chance to engage in exciting wizard duels, mix and brew magical ingredients in potions class and take to the air to lead the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory. Players may even get sidetracked by Ron's romantic entanglements as they journey towards a dramatic climax and discover the identity of the Half-Blood Prince.
