PalmOne PalmPak eBook Series: Sci-FiIf you love Sci-Fi, you will like this product, if you aren't familiar with Sci-fi, you probably won't. There are a lot of questions I could ask about the stories, because I am unfamiliar with space terminology.

Xbox 360 Intercooler 360 - Black Review

Xbox 360 Intercooler 360 - BlackI had purchased the original Intercooler for my 360 last year. Initially, it worked like a charm, keeping the system cool to the touch. After awhile, my console started having issues. Thinking it may have been a defective unit, I swapped it out and got another one. In almost the same time frame, the second console started having problems. The only constant was the Intercooler. Save yourself some grief. Buy a USB powered laptop cooling pad. I use an Antec one that is frequently on sale for $10. It works like a charm and doesn't harm the 360.

--Some analysis for those who care--

First, an observation. On several units, plugging in the intercooler caused the CD tray to open poorly. It was sluggish and sometimes didn't open up completely. Unplugging the intercooler immediately fixed the issue.

Thinking about the design, it makes sense why my console was failing.

1. The extra device was under-volting the 360. Anyone who has taken high school physics knows that a fan can be simplified as a resistor. By putting an extra resistor between the 360 and the power supply, you are creating an unexpected voltage drop before the power even gets into the 360. Less voltage = less power.

2. The 360 is a computer, not an appliance. It has a motherboard, drives, and all that fancy stuff. Inside a computer, power goes into 2 places: motherboard and drives. Drives are fairly tollerant to power fluctuations. Hence, you can put fans and other devices in the same power line as a hard drive or optical drive without too much issue (up to a point). The motherboard and all components on it, are far more sensitive to fluctuations. Therefore, power coming in first runs through a regulator on the motherboard. These regulators expect a certain amount of voltage and current. Power that comes out of these regulators is clean and at the right amount. By reducing the amount of power going into the regulators, not enough power can be supplied to the components, causing damage. Ultimately, this can lead to failure

3. While the power supply is rated for 203 watts, anyone who has built a computer knows that the rating usually means the peak power the supply can put out. The constant output is typically lower than that. Under no circumstances should the power supply be constantly run at the peak power (unless explicitly stated, like an Antec TruPower). Given this, the supply can easily supply the ~180 watts necessary for 360 peak performance. It can probably safely supply somewhere up to 185-190 watts. Any more than that and the supply will become unstable if constantly asked for that load.

Misconception that I've seen all over: "The 360 can power all these extra devices like battery chargers and wired controllers, why shouldn't it be able to handle a couple fans?"

Reason: The issue isn't if the 360 can handle it, but rather where the fans are placed. All of the peripherals for the 360 are powered by USB, which runs through the motherboard. This means the power is drawn from the board and through the voltage regulator on the board. The board controls where the power is sent. USB power is a standard, and each port is rated for a certain amount. If the draw on a port exceeds the rated amount or there is a short, it shuts off to protect the other components. An external device bypasses all regulation and safety measure.

USB type A Finger Trackball (Black) Review

USB type A Finger TrackballThe identical trackball (for that is what it is) is also marketed on Amazon as the One Finger Mouse. The average of about 20 reviews for it is 3.5 stars. One should read these reviews, as the first review here is not representative.

It is designed for those who need a small hand-held cursor control device, especially when a work surface is unavailable, as when traveling.

A few had problems with it, either mechanical, or not liking the design, but most found it helpful for its ergonomics (repetitive motion syndrome relief), and no need for a surface to operate it. Few thought it perfect, but most were satisfied; it is the only TRACKBALL of its kind, and very inexpensive, so one can hardly expect perfection. The biggest downside to me, is that one has to put it down to touch type: then I'm forced to revert to the inferior touch pad. The trackball is GREAT for browsing, and SO much better than my touch pad.

I found mine to be easy to master, and wonderful for cramped situations where there is no desk space for a mouse, especially in a car or aircraft, or when luggage space is at a premium. Seated at my desk, I use a large desk-top trackball for its greater precision, but for travel, or for use while standing (eg using a projection screen), the One Finger Mouse is quite adequate.

Wii Energizer Flat Panel Review

Wii Energizer Flat PanelOf the various Wii Remote charging solutions I've encountered, this is easily one of the more elegant and effective.

The charger, itself, is very sleek and attractive -- heavily influenced, it would seem, by Apple's minimalist design aesthetic.

Set-up is a breeze:replace the Wii Remote's alkaline batteries with the included combination battery cover/battery pack, plug in the AC adapter, connect the adapter to the charger, and place the Wii Remote (with or without a Wii Remote Jacket or Wii MotionPlus module) on the panel.

LED indicators glow red when charging is in progress and green when charging is complete. In my experience, depleted batteries will reach full charge within three to four hours, and a full charge will power a Wii Remote for at least six to eight hours of game play, depending on use.

There are a lot of things to like about this charger, but, for me, three stand out:

(1) This charger is fully compatible with Wii Remote Jackets and Wii MotionPlus modules, so, if you use either of these, there's no need to remove them for charging with this system. Not all of the charging systems out there work with these accessories attached; the fact that this one does really ups its convenience factor.

(2) This system features regulated "trickle charging," which eliminates concerns about overcharging the batteries; you can leave the Wii Remotes on the charger whenever they're not in use, even for extended periods of time, without risking damage to the batteries. This means your remotes are always ready to go whenever you're ready to play.

(3) This system's horizontal flat-panel design allows for placement of the charger in confined spaces, unlike some of the cradle-style charging systems on the market, which take up a fair amount of vertical space.

There's not much to criticize about this charger save for two small issues:

(1) This charger can accommodate only two Wii Remotes at a time; if you have three or four remotes, this might not be the right charger for you.Energizer makes a 4X flat-panel induction charger for Wii Remotes, but it costs considerably more, and it has a much wider footprint, meaning it might not fit as neatly in cramped spaces

(2) If the remotes aren't precisely positioned on the panel, they won't charge.Built-in magnets help hold naked remotes in place during charging, but, if your remotes are wearing silicone jackets, the magnets won't help, and you'll have to be extra careful about getting the alignment just right and making sure the charging indicators are lit.

These are very minor concerns, though, about an otherwise outstanding product.Highly recommended!

PSP 3000 Review

PSP 3000So this is the 3rd iteration for the Playstation Portable.
I've personally experienced the first 2, selling my original PSP Phat for the PSP Slim (2000).
I've done the same again and sold my slim and bought the 3000.

The improvements over the PSP 2000, are a improved LCD screen which I must say is pretty improved, and a built in Microphone. (Finally I can make use of the skype feature as well as chat online in psp games.)

So is this a justifiable upgrade? For the improvements not really.
But if you're in the market for a PSP right now... The PSP 3000 is an ideal step into the PSP World.

Also following up the PSP 3000's launch is the Firmware 5.00 which brings Playstation Store (found on PS3) to the PSP.
But this firmware will be hitting all iterations of PSP.

So...Great purchase for me...Hope all of you here on Amazon do the same :)

PalmOne Zondervan NIV Study Bible CD Review

PalmOne Zondervan NIV Study Bible CDI love having the Bible on my Treo.Thw Word is always with me because I take my Treo everywhere and I don't always have the space to tote a traditional Bible.

It is very easy to highlight important verses and you can easily navigate through a a particular transalation and quickly jump back and forth between translations. My Treo runs Palm OS, so I don't have the added benefit of a split screen to view two translations at the same time.

My complaints with the software are that it should have been designed to run completely from a memory card.It is a horrible memory hog.You must install the programs to your device and the Bibles to a card to get the full functionality of all the programs. These instructions are not included in the documentation; you have to go to [...] to figure out how, even though that contact information isn't included on the CD or in the documentation either. You can call customer service four days a week.

Razer BattleLight for Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard Review

Razer BattleLight for Razer Tarantula Gaming KeyboardWhen I got the tarantula keyboard, one of the reasons was because the accessories that could be added to it. At the time I bought the keyboard I thought that the accessories had already been released but to my dismay they were not (bout 3 months ago) So when i found out the BattleLight accessory had been released I was quite excited. So on to the pros and cons...

Pros:
-"oooo a pretty blue light"
-Button to turn light on and off
-Adjustable head (up, down, turn left, turn right)

Cons:
-Only illuminates the middle of the keyboard! (From about to the "t" to "Delete", which is about the length of the light)
-Shows you even in the dark how much this keyboard collects dust..
-A bit distracting when gaming.

In my opinion, the BattleLight is just an eye catch and not worth the money. If you really want light, you would be better off getting a keyboard with illuminated keys but then again the Tarantula is quite an awesome keyboard. I just wish the keys were illuminated.

Xbox 360 Faceplate Review

Xbox 360 FaceplateThe XBox 360 comes with a removeable faceplate, allowing you to snap on new faceplates to customize your XBox 360's look.

First, the packaging. All of the XBox components we've bought have come in a thick plasic unit, to keep it safe from thieves I imagine. The faceplate plastic outerwear tells you to cut across the very top with scizzors, to help you open it without damaging the faceplate. However, at the very bottom is the instructions, so you have to dig them out!

To begin installation, you have to of course pry off the starting faceplate. This isn't exactly an easy task. At the very bottom of the faceplate (beneath the USB area) is a slot that you have to pull out on. Unless you have a very strong fingernail, find a screwdriver and pull out gently. That should get the faceplate to pull off straight towards you.

You'll be able to see that there are 4 tabs on the upper face and 3 on the lower face that hold the faceplate on. The tabs don't have "edges" like I've seen on most computer faceplates, they are more rounded. Hopefully this will help them not wear out as quickly, but I'm not sure personally that I would want to continuously add and remove faceplates from this system. The tabs don't look like they would last up to multiple pulls.

Simply press the new faceplate on, and you're all set. I like the blue one shown, but they also have a wood-themed one, a black flame unit and a silver unit.

Is it really necessary to have a new faceplate for your XBox 360? Of course not. But it does add a bit of personalization to your unit, and the price is pretty reasonable!

PSPgo Component AV Cable Review

PSPgo Component AV CableThis cable will let you hook up your PSPgo to your TV for games, videos, or whatever else you have saved onto your system.Note that playing games on your TV requires an EDTV (at least 480p) set.Everything else can be done on an SDTV set, but if that's what you have, you should just buy the composite cable.

The downsides of this cable are:
1.There is significant screen cropping (overscan) when you are on the XMB.A large portion of the screen is obscured at all times while you are using the basic functions of the PSPgo system.
2.When playing games, the opposite is true. The video feed is a third the size of your TV, but this may be because I have a 1080p set.I do not own a 480p set to try it on, so it may fill the screen on a lower resolution display.

Still, this is the best way to play PSP games. If you own a PS3 also, I definitely recommend you pick up the PSPgo dock station along with this cable, as it allows you to charge your PSPgo while you are playing it on your TV.You can use your PS3 controller to control the action in your game, which makes the PSPgo no different from any other home console. It's a classy way to play your games while you are at home.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Review

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake EaterBy far, this movi--err, I mean game, has some of the best cut scenes I've ever seen in a game.Kojima, the creator/director of the Metal Gear Series goes beyond delivering a traditional action shoot-em-up and offers up a truly interactive cinematic experience, with some truly original gameplay to boot.

In a sense, this game is really an "interactive movie" where parts of it, you control the character (although your actions largely have little outcome in the plot). On your first play-through, you will be immersed in the plot line and the execellent cinematic sequences. You'll find that you're often playing just to get from one cut scene to the next (there has to be well over 1.5 hours of cut scenes).4 of my friends basically sat around and watched me beat the game in one sitting (~9 hours) just to watch the cinematic sequences.

In these cut scenes, Kojima pieces together a somewhat hokey plot-line, which is interesting, but not entirely believable (I'll let it slide ;)).What's more impressive, though, is the detail to which the cut scenes are executed; all of the sequences use high detail, in game models (not pre rendered), pretty good voice acting, and fully motion captured action.Kojima adds cinematic flare to the scenes by making creative use of camera angles and techniques like slo-mo (don't worry, none of it is cheesy) and using a pitch black screen (only audio) during a sequence when Snake has a sack over his head.In addition, Kojima introduces a few very interesting characters, most notably, The End, an expert marksman in the twilight of his life and a young hotshot, Ocelot. All in all, the cut scenes are top notch; they come together to form a truly cinematic experience, something you don't always expect from a game.

While you can beat the game playing it as a pure shoot-em-up style type of game (you'll probably want to do that on the first play through, just to watch all of the cut scenes), you'll get the most satisfaction and challenge from trying to use your stealth capabilities and sneaking through the various stages of the game undetected by the enemy. To that effect, MGS3 introduces the very novel idea of camouflage.Snake can don various camo uniforms and face paints to blend in with his environments and decrease his visibility. It adds a novel twist and, as other reviewers have mentioned, would have been even more welcome if the interface to change the camo was more accessible (you have to enter the game menu to change camo).

MGS3 also introduces the idea of food, which can be used in various ways in the game (even as a weapon in some cases).Snake can obtain traps and capture live animals for consumption later on, or he can kill an animal and store it in his backpack. But beware, just like in real life, the food will spoil.Just turn the game off, come back two or three days later and you'll find that most of your food has spoiled.Don't worry though, there are plenty of little critters to hunt down in the game ;)

Although the game is relatively short, there is tremendous replay value for those that are up to the challenge of trying to play through the game under certain conditions to unlock secret items/weapons.For example, each of the bosses can be defeated by either depleting their health or stamina.Defeating a boss by the latter results in obtaining their camo, which often have special abilities.

All in all, I think this is a great game that anyone that owns a PS2 owes it to themselves to play through at least once.It is truly a masterpiece that kind of bridges the gap between a movie and a game (one of the final "chase" sequences is *very* awesome).

Graphics: 9/10; Some of the best visuals I've seen to date, particularly the excellent cut scenes, which use high detail in game models and fully motion captured action. There is just an incredible level of detail to everything in the game. For example, when you run through the jungle, the blades of grass move as well, you leave footsteps when you step through the mud, and when you get shot or injured, your uniform gets stained with blood accordingly

Mechanics: 8/10; I only have three minor gripes about the mechanics of the game.First of all, there isn't a second person view and you can't move in first person view. It's incredibly difficult to aim in third person view, but in first person view, you can't move, so you're basically a sitting target every time you need to aim precisely.Second of all, since camo plays a big part in the game, there should really have been a better interface to change camo. And finally, you cannot load the game during a game, you have to reset the game. This is somewhat frustrating and time consuming when you are trying to obtain certain items under certain conditions in the highest difficulty level ;)

Music/Sound: 9/10; The voice acting in the game seems hokey at first, but after a while, you won't be able to imagine the characters with any other voice.Overall, the voiceovers are done fairly well. For the most part, the gameplay sequences are devoid of music. When it does come on, usually when you get caution/alert status, it can be a bit annoying since it makes it somewhat difficult to hear the ambient sounds like footsteps and what not.The ambient sounds, from jungle to mountain top to caves, are all very well done. When it rains, it really sounds like rain. When the wind howls, it really sounds like the wind is howling.Put on a good pair of headphones, and you'll really feel like you're in the jungle with Snake. There are also a few 007-esque tracks, which may or may not be your thing.

Difficulty: 7/10; The game is not actually very difficult, it just requires a lot of patience, some creative thinking occasionally, and a steady hand. This game is certainly not for younger gamers; it's not really a run-and-gun type of game.In addition, there is quite a bit of suggestive material and violence.

Replay Value: 8/10; With many different levels of difficulty, different optional items to get, different styles of play, different rankings, secret items, and a relatively short length, the game offers a high level of replayability.Even some of the cut scenes are worth watching a few extra times.I'm currently on my second play through, trying to get the invisible camo on the hardest difficulty mode.

Overall: 9/10;This is a great, great game. It's nearly perfect (nearly!).You'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you didn't pick it up and play it.

Bayonetta Review

BayonettaI picked up this game being a fan of the 'Devil May Cry series'. The action is very over the top, and overall plot/dialogue can't be taken too seriously. But the gameplay/cinematics will make up for the overall campy stroy arc.

The plot seems to be very simular to the comic/movie 'Constintine'. An eternal war between paradise and the inferno, the main characters stand between both factions to keep the lines balanced. I'm still very early in the game, but it seems to be stacking cliche plot twists I'm anticipating any moment now. But this really isn't the type of game played for the story-arch.

The gameplay is terribly simular to Devil May Cry, Devil Kings, etc. It is a third person action shooter, with a fairly simple control/fighting scheme. You can string together combos with standard punch, kick, and firearms. Weapons and fighting abilities can be purchased to add more variety in your combos. An amazing feature when aquiring upgrade items is the opportunity to try the attacks before actually purchasing them. It can be frustrating trading in game credits just for an item or weapon you soon realize "yup, I'm never using that." Accomplishing long strings of combos enables more devistating ranged attacks or cinematic "executions". Like holding an enemy while a guilituine or iron maiden appears and you throwing it into the device.

Now the drawbacks. Between stringing attacks and dodging enemies, the rhythm is very fast paced but easy to learn after the opening stages. Even with good timing, the majority of the gameplay can also be accomplished through button mashing, especially fighting standard enemies from one end of the level to the other. It can become VERY repetitive, even with new finishing movies and abilities unlocked. Because of this, you will see the same cinematics over and over again. Because of this most people will either love or hate the game. The gameplay is linear, there is no sandbox enviroment to wander around in. I think games like this are much more entertaining without the free roaming. Not everything has to entitle a GTA like wandering enviroment, but some people have accepted it as some sort of standard. Campaign mode and nothing else. I don't see what else can really be done with a game like this, but the only bonus outside of the story is online leaderboards.

Overall, if you like 3rd person action platformers, this game is definately worth checking out. Be warned, it is repetitive, but the gameplay seems well worth it. It should also be noted that the violence and overt sexual themes are endless. If by chance you're a concerned parent or offended by either, be warned this game never quits with either.

Pros:
Great action
infinate combo strings between weapons/ability upgrades
"Equilibrium" style gunplay
entertaining fight climax/cinematics
looks gorgeous in HD
mindless entertainment is easy and fun

Cons:
REPETITIVE and overall button masher
campaign, leaderboards, and nothing else
cheesy story/bad dialogue all around
mindless entertainment could get old fast

Chulip Review

ChulipChulip is a very interesting game. It's a completely different concept than anything else I've EVER played before, but in a good way. You play as a boy trying to win the girl of his dreams. Earning the trust of the locals means kissing them, and that's a lot of the game.

Positives of the game include that the overall feel of the game is a nice one, and the graphics, though not utterly amazing and realistic, fit the game to a T. The characters are all a little on the weird side, but that's one of the reasons that the game is funny. Earning some of the kisses require you to do odd things, like play on the (very dangerous, as the sign says) playground equipment in the park, riding to all of the train stations, and running out of the bath-house without your clothes on.

A definite con, if you ask me, is that when you're out past curfew (in the town only) and get caught, you are shot and it's game over. However, some of the kisses require you to go out at night, so it adds a little more challenge to the game. Also, because the main character is so poor, it's a little hard to maintain and earn money in the game. Your main source of income is digging in trashcans, where you can find many things from sweet potatoes to poo (which has value in Chulip, oddly enough).

All in all, it's a great game, and I would easily recommend it. Though it's not too bad, you might want to pay attention to the fact that it's "T" for "Teen"

Rock Band 2 Standalone Drums Review

Rock Band 2 Standalone DrumsThis review will be mostly a comparison with the rock band 1 set, so I'll assume most people reading this are familiar with the game and/or the RB1 set. I'll also mention briefly the cymbal expansion and how it differs from the original play style. To start off, though, I'll list some of the features of this new set.

+Wireless
+Sound dampening pads
+Velocity sensitive (the harder you hit, the louder the sound)
+Metal-reinforced pedal
+Cymbal expansion portsThe set out of the box is just as simple as the first one to set up, and even if you have not put one together before, it is fairly self-explanatory. Square peg goes in the square hole, as it were. It took me about 5 minutes to socket the pieces and get it to the appropriate height I wanted. My overall impressions of the set are that although it is made with more plastic than aluminum this time around, the frame itself seems sturdier, with less wobble because the base and sides are a bit wider. Three AA batteries are needed, so you might want to invest in some rechargable batteries if you plan on playing quite a bit.

When playing, I can hear quite a difference from the original pads, and the sound dampening is indeed doing its job. However, it doesn't soften the sound *as much* as the silencer pads that are sold separately, so if you ended up buying those prior to this set, you may want to hang on to them. In fact, because I don't have a surround sound system on my TV, I found it hard to hear the different noises coming from the velocity sensitive pads unless I turned the TV up uncomfortably loud. In other words, the pads are softer, but still have some clacking going on that may interfere with some people's playing.

Visually, I can see a difference coming from the velocity sensitive equipment, and it gives you an on-screen cue on the lights at the bottom to tell you if what you just did was a soft or hard hit (there isn't anything in-between soft and hard) The velocity sensitive angle strikes me as a nice addition to the franchise, but it's purely for show.

The pedal, meanwhile, is holding up like a champ. I've never been one to slam down on it very much, but the metal plate will give me some added comfort while I play. On the other hand, it is only a plate covering the (still plastic) pedal, and not a replacement for the hinge at the bottom of the pedal, which is where most people have a problem. Expert level players or people who tend to bang on the pedal might still consider a replacement kit to make sure nothing happens to theirs.

Lastly, I bought the 2 pack of cymbals to plug in the expansion ports, and although I won't review them here, I will talk about how they make the game different. The striking part of the cymbals are rubber, so in theory they shouldn't make much noise, but in practice, they are as loud if not louder than the sound dampening pads. Anyone with thin walls or parents they don't want to wake up should be aware that this might still be a problem.

In-game, I've found myself avoiding the cymbals to start off with, because of the added difficulty of switching from pad to cymbal, but also because there is no in-game indicator of which one to use. I suppose I should have known this going in, but I supposed that there would be a way to switch the note charts somehow in the game so that it knew whether the player was using a standard kit or one with cymbals, and changed the notes accordingly. As it is, I'm certainly no drum expert, so knowing instinctively when I should be using what (pad or cymbal) is somewhat of an exercise in frustration, and makes me think that I'm really just picking up bad drumming habits that I'll later have to break. What it comes down to is that if you know a song by heart, or play live drums, this won't be a problem. For everyone else, hoping that this would be something of a drum trainer, the cymbals come off as a tacked-on experience. (Yes, I realize the irony of saying an expansion is tacked-on, but still)

They work as intended, but not without the players knowledge of how to use them. Not even the in-game drum trainer will be much help here because there is still no visual indicator of which object to hit.

As a whole, the set is a spot-on practical improvement. They located problem areas and seem to have improved on them so that the consumer wouldn't have to. But for many of the spots where they tried to take things a bit further (cymbals, velocity sensitive), the experience feels extraneous. The average user can be content with their Rock Band 1 drum kit, given that it is still in playing condition. With 20/20 hindsight, $90 seems like a steep price to pay for the relatively small advancements that this kit allows you to do.

The bottom line: This kit is good, but I would say it's better for people who have not already bought a rock band drum kit, and want one that will last.

Edited 3/18/09: After a few months of play, I thought I would note a couple of other flaws that came up. First of all, the clasps used for the height rods are too loose on my kit, so when I raised the kit and clamped them down, they would come loose while I played, making the whole thing crash down to floor level in the middle of a song. Not good. I had to solve this by switching out the base of my RB1 kit for the RB2 one, but be aware that this can be a problem, and you may have to RMA yours if you pick one up. Secondly, the pedal, as expected, has begun to crack at the hinge, so in all honesty, it's still a question of "when" and not "if" the pedal will break, even on this second generation set. Unfortunately, it looks like the real bottom line is that customers have gotten the shaft as far as Rock Band is concerned. These issues combined with the price knock my review down to 3/5 stars.

Scrabble and Monopoly Review

Scrabble and MonopolyThis review covers two games (on one CD), Monopoly & Scrabble. Both are excellent implementations. The user interface is streamlined and effective. I don't know how it could be significantly better. Both games have the ability to play against the computer, against humans on the same Palm, or against humans on other Palms connected via Bluetooth or Infrared. I have only played against the computer, but did try the multiplayer single Palm mode and found it to be adequate in that it hides your chips (Scrabble).

Scrabble has four computer skill levels from beginner to expert. It also has two modes, friendly & tournament. I have used up to the 3rd level and find it appropriate for someone scoring in the 300s. The gameboard is clear and easy to use. There is a built-in official Scrabble dictionary, which in the friendly mode, can be used to look up words. Overall it is a lot of fun and a good way to improve one's Scrabble skills.

The Monopoly game board is a bit crowded on a Palm and they have done a good job of fitting everything on while providing a method of seeing the details. It isn't perfect, but there is no perfect solution for such a complex game on a tiny screen. I have played several games against the computer and find that the 2nd player algorithm is just adequate. It is easy to beat the computer when there is only one on one play. The game allows up to four players and when the computer plays as a 2nd and 3rd player the game becomes more challenging (as one might expect).

My only gripe about Monopoly is that it would be nice to have some different skill levels for the computer. The current decision making process is sometimes a bit lame, as the computer will spend money unmortgaging properties that don't much produce income instead of focusing on getting houses on complete property sets. It also will pass on buying when cash is low, whereas it could mortgage something to buy, which would prevent me from the opportunity of gaining a monopoly. In spite of this weakness, I still like the game quite a lot.

I am rating with a 5 because both games really are well done. However, if rating separately, I would probably give Scrabble a 5 and Monopoly a 4.

Rogue Galaxy Review

Rogue GalaxyThe Playstation 2 has tons of RPGs.When a new one marches forth most RPGers can usually say "Yep" or "Nope."Rogue Galaxy is definitely a "Yep."It's easy to grasp, yet difficult to master. It's shorthanded in some key areas which keep it from being perfect, but it's still one of the best RPGs to come around in a while.

Rogue Galaxy follows the story of Jaster.Jaster dreams of exploring the galaxy someday. He more than gets his chance after having a run in with a Bounty Hunter, and then being mistaken for said bounty hunter. In all honesty, Rogue Galaxy doesn't have a great storyline. It's certainly not horrible, but it's standard. It's also full of predictable plot points, and it actually lacks a little in the character development. These two aspects of any RPG are crucial.Whether you want to accept it or not, story and character development are important, and Rogue Galaxy lacks both. It's sad because you'll meet a lot of characters who are interesting. The problem is that you just don't learn enough about them.

Luckily, the game is saved by the sheer fun factor that comes with the battle system.Unlike other RPGs, Rogue Galaxy doesn't have you running around and then there's a transition into a random battle.Rather, enemies just pop up and you take a battle stance right in the area you're exploring. It's very similar to Kingdom Hearts in that regard. When in battle you'll be able to jump around, slash as your enemies and switch between primary and secondary weapons.Your primary weapon is usually a melee weapon, while your secondary is a projectile.Battling is fast paced and fun.It deviates away from the menu based combat that has dominated RPGs over the past couple of decades.

Battling isn't entirely simple, though. The game is quite a challenge in many regards.First, there's the emphasis on strategy. This is more than just you smacking an enemy until it dies. Some enemies you'll have to expose their weakness in some way before you can start dealing damage to them. Some only take damage from certain weapons. There is a definite emphasis on strategy.Your characters will often give you hints on what to do as well.

You only control one character in combat. The others are controlled by AI.Unfortunately this is another aspect where Rogue Galaxy falls short.Your allies are hardly aggressive. There will be plenty of moments where you'll have to revive your AI controlled characters. There are moments where the game's difficulty is so high that reviving and healing characters becomes a constant chore. This is mostly apparent in boss battles.Which brings up another factor that can make or break the experience of Rogue Galaxy.Leveling up also feels like a chore sometimes. It takes a lot of battling to level up.It's fun, thank goodness, but much like Dragon Quest VIII there are times when you'll spend more time level grinding than progressing through the game. Some RPGers will love this challenge, but others may not be patient enough to do so much level building. The game is long as it is, and so much more of it requires the player to be dedicated to level grinding. For the most part, though, it's still a fun game to play, and the battle system is so much more involving than other RPGs out there.

Another factor to aid the battle system and peak the interest of any RPGer is the weapon fusion. As you go through the game, your weapons also level up.They can be be fused with other weapons to make more powerful weapons. So much of Rogue Galaxy isn't so much dependent on your defense as much as it is your offense. So it's a good idea to fuse some good weapons. However, weapon fusing isn't completely fun and games. There's no way for you to become a God right from the get go with weapons.Factors such as the weapon type, weapon level, your characters skill with the weapon etc. play a pivotal role.So even if you created a really powerful weapon early on, your character may not be skilled enough to wield it.This works very well, because it keeps the game from becoming too easy too fast.

Rogue Galaxy also offers a complex ability system called "Revelations."Each character has a Revelations Flow Chart.By buying certain items and placing them in the Revelations Flow Chart, your characters will learn abilities, and other parts of the Flow Chart will open up for them.Like a lot of the game, it's actually pretty simple to learn. This is what's nice about Rogue Galaxy. It's easy to pick up and play.

There are some pretty cool optional quests that you can do throughout the game. You can collect bugs that can be used in a stadium (very similar to Pokemon), go on bounty missions, explore other planets.Rogue Galaxy is a pretty big game all on its own.The main quest is big enough, but some of the secrets and extras are enough to rival the Final Fantasy games.

Visually, Rogue Galaxy is one of the most artistic and beautiful looking games out there. It has a beautiful cel-shaded look very similar to Dragon Quest VIII. The environments are detailed and pretty. The fact of how exploration is done is also fantastic.Instead of just roaming around you'll have to jump up platforms and such as well. There are better looking games, but the style of this one is what makes the graphics stand out.Load times also feel non-existent.Since battles take place in exploration, and the game's cutscenes don't have to load (because there are no flashy FMVs), there's not much the game really has to load.

Speaking of which, the sound and audio quality is really good. There are times when the soundtrack feels like it isn't big enough, but you'll enjoy what you get from it, regardless. The voice acting is also done really well, even if a lot of dubbing is off more so than other RPGs.

The point is simple: With video games moving on to newer systems, it's nice to see that the Playstation 2 hasn't been left in the dust, and that Rogue Galaxy really is a high quality RPG.It may not have the best story in the world, or the best characters, but it's a huge game, with tons of things to do.The sheer amount of fun you'll have with this game is a testament to it's good quality.

Pros:

+Beautiful Looking Game
+Great soundtrack
+Good voice acting
+Tons of sidequests and optional things to do
+Very engaging battle system
+Load times feel non-existent
+The game is a good overall challenge
+Weapon fusion is deeper than most RPGs that try to do the same thing

Cons:

-Predictable storyline
-Not enough character development
-AI controlled characters don't do enough
-Some boss battles are unreasonably challenging
-A huge emphasis on level grinding, but you won't get enough experience from most of these enemies

Wii Remote & Nunchuk Skin Review

Wii Remote & Nunchuk SkinThis Wii Remote glove works well as a glove -- it improves the grip on the remote -- but only get it if your remote has rechargeable batteries of the type such that you put the whole remote into a charging cradle. That's because it's nearly impossible to replace AA batteries with this thing on, and it's a pain to take off and put back on.It has a hole in the back that works with the kind of recharging cradle where the remote leans against the electrodes. It doesn't have a hole to support the kind of charger where you plug a USB cable in the back.

Frequency Review

FrequencyThis great PS2 game combines great music with finger-tapping fun. It might seem easy at first, but soon you're caught up in the musical action!
There are other games out there that make you 'dance to the beat' or hit buttons in rhythm. Frequency takes this to a new level by breaking up real songs into their components - guitar, drum, synth, etc - and letting you play along with ANY of the parts.
Get strings of hits done properly to gain points, and tag special sequences to get multipliers or other bonusses. Advance through levels to unlock secrets, and increase the difficulty level on any song to challenge yourself further.
These aren't 'generic beats' you're playing along with. You get to choose from No Doubt, Fear Factory, Orbital, Paul Oakenfold, Curve, The Crystal Method, and many more. So not only is the gameplay great, but the music you get to listen to is great, too!
Design your own mixes of the songs, or even better, play the game with friends! The game truly shines when you take it into multiplayer. You can do that with extra controllers, or the best way to play is on line with the PS2 Online setup. Get three other players from around the globe to join you, and together you can really get a song to shine. It's amazingly fun to go from your own simple bassline and to hear the other players chime in with their parts. It's an on line jam session!
Highly recommended for any music fan, and even those not heavily into music but who enjoy games like tetris and bubbles will find it quite addicting.

Wii Control Pak Review

Wii Control PakI recommend the classic controller in this pack, which has a nice feel to it and has worked reliably for me, but the nunchuck is garbage. The design is such that the Z button will start sticking after a while and require you to take it apart and clean it to get it working smoothly again, and at least in my case the control stick became wonky after about 1 month, when it started registering as being pressed in a direction when it wasn't being touched. So, if they ever sell the classic controller alternative separately I'd recommend that, but this combo pack is a bust. Then again, at it's current price on Amazon, maybe it's not such a bad deal as long as you just consider it a good price for a good classic controller alternative.

Darkwatch Review

DarkwatchDarkwatch is a mature gaming title set in the old west. You're an outlaw set on robbing a train - but suddenly you're turning into a vampire and joining up with a group of monster slayers.

The atmosphere of the game is dark and moody. You are at times running along a dark, rusty train, or riding on your vampiric horse, or perhaps running through a graveyard. Along the way you absorb blood from your enemies, gain in powers and work towards your goal of slaying Lazarus - a vampire who has been around since the days of the Roman Empire.

Primarily a first person shooter, you can choose from a number of "period" weapons - crossbows, rifles, handguns, etc. There are of course the traditional tweaks to add interest - the crossbow shoots dual rounds, your horseback weapons spring unlimited ammo that never need reloading.

I'm intrigued and happy that both of your main friends are female, and are just as good at vampire-slaying as you are. Together with the Darkwatch, you move through Arizona slaying evil.

There is slight "customization" as you go - you can choose to do good or evil actions to certain characters. It doesn't change the course of the game, but it does let you earn different types of powers as you go. Other than that, the game is primarily about shooting a lot, moving to the next map area, shooting a lot more, and so on.

The game is definitely mature. When you fight the enemies, you can decapitate them, lop off arms, and generally cause a lot of bodily damage. There are sexual situations as well. The game is meant for and marked for adults.

I found the graphics on the disappointing side for an XBox title - they were more in line with PS2 graphics. The sounds were reasonably good - I was amused that the title theme was almost a direct take-off from a certain classic western movie.

All in all, the game is a relatively short play, and while you can re-play to try different good-evil combinations or try on different difficulty levels, it is primarily a shooter. If you enjoy shooters, the old west and a dark, undead atmosphere, you'll probably enjoy playing this as a way to relieve stress in a relatively mindless way. We all have our games that we enjoy for this sort of situation - tetris, gauntlet, etc. On the other hand, if you're looking for a more multi-threaded good-evil atmosphere like KOTOR or even Fable, Darkwatch will seem very linear to you.

Recommended for adults who enjoy dark shooters.

PalmOne: Directions on the Go Review

PalmOne: Directions on the GoOK, this seemed like such a great addition to my Palm. I'm in a new city I don't know very well, and I travel all over, all of the time. First of all, this cost $40 when I bought it, which is way too much. The interface is really bad. It loads slowly, the maps are hard to read. You have to buy an extra SD card to use the maps that you download from their site (and their site really isn't that intuitive). The extra card cost me another $30. So I blew $70 to make this work, and it just doesn't! The maps end at the city limits, so if I have to head just a little into the suburbs, I'm out of luck. But HERE'S the kicker. The maps are wrong! They are routinely off by about 3-4 blocks, and not in one consistent direction! My apartment is about 4 blocks off to the East. My friend's house is 3 blocks off to the South. If I want to use this to get directions... VERY SLOWLY LOADED directions, I am not even sure I'm going to end up in the correct location, and I see that as a BIG problem! Don't waste your money. You're better off searching at home with Streets and Trips or Mapquest and printing these directions out the old fashioned way!

Wii Wand - Pink Review

Wii Wand - PinkI love my Nyko black remote and jacket. It is more stylish and cooler than Nintendo's humdrum white remotes. It says that it is motion plus compatible.Do not be fooled into thinking that this remote has motion plus technology built into it.In truth, it needs to be interfaced with motion plus to function with compatible games.

Other than that, Nintendo should have come out with this type of remote from the start.White remotes have smaller buttons and are harder to play with.I prefer the Nyko Wand over the Nintendo remotes a googolplex to one.

Nintendo should follow in Nyko's lead, and revamp their remotes. Also, the Nyko remote is far cheaper at Wal*Mart than here.Don't go squandering your money on a remote like this at this price, when you can get the same item cheaper elsewhere.

Another item that goes with this remote is the Kama Wireless Nunchuck.Nintendo should also follow in Nyko's lead with this as well.

Product Description:
There's road rage, and then there's road rage Simpsons style! D'oh! Mr. Burns is up to his greedy ways again. He's purchased Springfield's transit corporation and heinously jacked up the fares. Refusing to shell out for the new rates, the road rage ensues. You'll take on commuters and jam-packed back routes, all in an effort to help buy back the corporation before time runs out.
More than 25 Simpsons characters climb behind the wheel or wander the streets begging for a ride. "Eat my shorts, dude!" Careen through timesaving shortcuts and take on terrain including hills, mountains, and forests. Wreak havoc in five Springfield neighborhoods that include landmarks such as Moe's Bar and the nuclear power plant. Busy traffic and wayward pedestrians confound your rage. However, two-wheel leans, speed starts, power slides, and other cool car physics help you release that rage.
Multiple game modes let you go head-to-head in two-player split-screen action that challenges your opponent in a race for the next passenger, or you can steal his or her passenger midride! Complete up to 60 unique passenger deliveries in story mode, or take a leisurely Sunday drive through the fair Springfield. A bonus system lets you unlock cars and specific characters, while intuitive menus make this game easy to play. As Homer would say, "If it's hard to do, it's not worth doing!"

Xbox 360 NFL Interchangeable Faceplate Review

Xbox 360 NFL Interchangeable FaceplateI thought it was great. It came with a solid white faceplate, the clear cover that attaches to the faceplate, and 32 team inserts which you put in between the faceplate and cover. The inserts are made of sturdy paper but they still can rip if your not careful. The cost is pretty good, it looks great, and it is very easy to put together.

Forza Motorsport for Xbox Review

Forza Motorsport for XboxForza Motorsport is Microsoft'sgrand attempt at breaking the strangle hold that Grand Turismo has had on the racing simulation. The attempt is certainly a very impressive one and quite welcome as well.First of all we start with vehicle selection of over 200 cars from Ford, Nissan, Porsche, Mecedes and more that will be available through content download off X-Box Live. With this many cars to choose from, it makes for great replay capability. The game features several different modes of play including Arcade, career and of course multi-player online, also greatly adding to the replay value.

In Arcade mode you can compete in six different vehicle classes. Most of the cars are selectable but many have to be unlocked through gameplay. In all the arcade mode offers 186 races in 31 different events making it a tremendous challenge. But Forza Motorsport really shines with the tremendous career mode option. You start by selecting your home region which dictates the cars that are available for use with a starting number of six in each region. From there you start your career at the bottom in the amateur circuit to race and build credits towards buying new cars, buying parts or making modifications to your existing ride.Just the paint and decal selections to modify your car's look offers hundreds of options.Credits are also used to unlock higher levels of competition to get more challenges. There is also a pretty cool reward system where you can gain discounts on parts from certain manufacturers. When it comes right down to it, the sheer number of option and modifications that you have available to you can be pretty overwhelming, but if you're looking for depth in this department then this is the game for you.

The graphics and sound are just fabulous and top Grand Turismo in every way.The cars look showroom accurate and the various tracks and locations you race on are just stunning! The music offers several options including adding your own custom soundtracks. With it's sheer number of options and great play Forza Motorsport is a fantastic race simulation.

Castle Shikigami 2 Review

Castle Shikigami 2This is going to sound odd but it actually makes perfect sense that I rated fun at 5 stars and overall at 3. Castle Shikigami 2 is the sequel to Mobile Light Force 2 (don't ask how that works, no one knows) and is essentiall a vertical scrolling shooter. You can play as one of 8 differenct characters each with different special abilities and "stories". You have three different ways to attack, there is the traditional shot the varies among characters as to what exactly it looks like and power ratings. There are also bombs that clear the screen and make you temporarally invincible. Then there are the special abilities. This is the big difference that should be taken into account when selecting your character. There are two versions of these abilities for each character but you must decide between one. For instance one character will summon a demon to attack enemies while all you have to do is dodge, while another will create giant swords that you can spin around you freely in defense.

Now the reason I put story in quotation marks earlier is that the game is so horribly translated that you can get some sense that they tried to have a story but failed in the localization. Basically it is like they tried to translate word for word without attempting to have it make snese. While this can be irritating, more than anything it is hilarious and just makes me love the game more. The best part, the game is fully voiced and only a few of the voice actors tried to make the script make sense. So what you get are some oddly nonsensical one liners that make so little sense that you can't help but laugh. A good example of this is the second boss. You defeat her as one character and the end conversation proceeds with her saying "I hate me. Men stink of sweat. You so cool..." then she dies. Makes no sense but is still amusing. Not to mention that every conversation is different depending on the character you play as (and even character combinations in multiplayer) which makes the possibilities quite interesting.

As far as the difficulty goes, this is one of the hardest games I have ever played. I've been playing games for nearly my entire life since atari and I can only beat this game on Very Easy with one character. The screen becomes so difficult to see at times that dodging bullets will be virtually impossible. Thus you have no choice but to either die or use a bomb. And you only get three lives per continue, and one hit kills. Plus, if you are playing multiplayer, you share continues (so your friend better be pretty good!).

Overall, if you like a good challenge and can find amusement in the horrendously translated (and voice acted to boot!) then you will love this game. It is both hilarious and frustrating.... and cheap too. So if you feel daring, give it a go.

NCAA March Madness 08 Review

NCAA March Madness 08I'll agree with other reviewers that this game has not really changed since at least the 2005 edition. That being said, I still enjoy playing it. My favorite part is the in-depth coaching experience, particularly recruiting. I find it more enjoyable than the actual gameplay which is not very realistic. The game never flows very well and I find that I'm able to get far too many dunks on offense and way too many steals on defense. I probably should move up a difficulty level. Other than being able to steal the ball alot, the actual playing of defense is extremely difficult and it seems impossible to stay in front of your man, particularly in the post. Overall, its a fun game that could definitely be improved upon.
