FIFA Soccer 10 Review

FIFA Soccer 10I have been playing FIFA 2009 since last fall and recently bought FIFA 2010 in the assumption that it would be a better game.It is not. While the graphics are a little better and the shooting and realism of gameplay is better, there are a multitude of aspects that EA Sports took away that make the game frustrating and less of an involved experience. If you want an "arcade" feel, this is what you want.If you want a game that you paid for to play on your own Wii in your home and the customization that comes with it, bother not with this game.

1. The interface is extremely annoying and dumbed down.It gives you very few ways to customize your experience.
2. The statistics page is dumbed down. You can no longer get the detail of stats you could in 2009, which I feel is one of the most important ways to get involved with your team and how the individual players perform.Reviewer #1 doesn't know what he is talking about in this regard.
3. You cannot adjust the level of difficulty in a season/team/manager without starting over with a different season/team/manager.This is retarded as I would like to get comfortable with the format before increasing the difficulty as I get better.
4. Again, the interface is better suited for an arcade and is actually mildly insulting in its simplicity.
5. The slow motion shooting thing Reviewer #1 spoke of is really annoying. Also, the game does not recognize that you've already played the game before when you start a new season/team/manager so you are frequently interrupted with instructions/tips.
6. In- and post-game Match Facts are dumbed down and not interesting any more.
7. You can't manage the franchise the way you could in 2009.The "business side" is completely gone.

2009 was a great game.EA had the opportunity to tweak some things (such as pass accuracy, which is one of the few things better here) to make the game even better, but instead took away a lot of small things that made the game more fun in an effort to keep you buying next year's game.Better wait until then.

Shrek The Third Review

Shrek The ThirdShrek The Third game is unfortunately just a so-so game overall. The developers did not put a whole lot of time into the graphics considering this is for a next generation console. Honestly, this looks no better or worse than Shrek 2 on the old XBox.My family and I personally enjoyed Shrek 2 much more. You can really see that Shrek and Donkey look sort of distorted and definately different than in the movie. So far, most of the voice acting in the game has not been from the movie actors. Puss' voice is really evident. Unless Antonio had strep throat while recording, that is not his voice.

Gameplay is fairly straight-forward. Mash buttons and follow a predetermined path. There are some hidden things here and there to discover, but so far, they seem too easy to find. Also, unless you just stand there and do nothing, it is fairly hard to die.

The biggest overall disappointment and change from Shrek 2 is this does not have co-op play. The only muliplayer part there is is some mini games and some one on one battles. No co-op in the actual game adventure. We play a lot of games as a family so this is a huge negative for us. Yes, Shrek 2 the game was sort of corny to play, but at least we could play it together.

This game is far from worth $50, so this is a rental at best.

Sega Superstars Tennis Review

Sega Superstars TennisFirst off, im a huge fan of Wii sports.I think it's the only game that's consistently in my Wii.That being said, I wanted to try another tennis game that took advantage of the Wii controller.Sega Superstars tennis fits the bill.

Sega Superstars tennis can be played in several modes, most of which are pretty similar to any other sports game: tournament, single-match, multiplayer, etc.The mode that I have been busy playing is the Superstars Mode where you play certain missions based on other Sega games of the past.By doing the missions you unlock new characters, music, courts, and other stuff. It is a great time and will keep you busy for a long time trying to unlock everything.

There are four ways to control the game on the Wii: 1. The Wii remote held like a tv remote2. The Wii remote plus the nunchuck3. The Wii remote held horizontally4. A classic controllerI found the Wii remote plus the nunchuck to be the best. You swing the raquet with the Wii remote just like Wii Sports tennis but with the nunchuck you get to move your character around the court rather than let the system move for you.I enjoy being able to move myself where I want way better than how it was in Wii Sports.

The graphics are pretty good. Not exactly amazing for the Wii, but pretty average. If you have been playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl lately, these graphics may disappoint a bit, but the gameplay definitely makes up for the graphics.

The one thing the Wii version is missing that the other systems got is online multiplayer.Im not sure why they left it out, but that is one downfall the game has.Playing local multiplayer is a good time though.

I've only spent a few hours with the game but already I can tell im going to be playing it for a while. The controls are great, the characters are fun, and unlocking stuff is a good time.If you enjoyed Wii Sports Tennis and are looking for more, give this game a shot. You will definitely enjoy it!

Littlest Pet Shop Friends: Country Review

Littlest Pet Shop Friends: CountryMy 11-year old sister loves Littlest Pet Shop.I think she is too old for it, but then again I am in no hurry for her to mature either and they are adorable little animals!A few weeks ago I wrote a post about the New Littlest Pet Shop Friends game and Littlest Pet Shop Online. When my sister saw that I received the New Littlest Pet Shop Friends "Country" to review, she was beyond excited! She opened it and put it in her Nintendo DS faster than I could ask her if she wanted to play it!

Littlest Pet Shop Country Friends is not just a game where you tae care of animals, it is jam packed with mini-games, dress up, and actually has a task to accomplish! The point of the game is to get your pets ready for a big celebration, so you have to deliver invitations, pick up food, and explore towns. The cool part of this game is that you can play two-player multi-player via a Nintendo Wi-Fi connection (unfortunately we weren't able to try this feature out.)

Your child may think they know all the Littlest Pet Shop pets, but Country Friends contains six exclusive country pets to collect!I think my favorite part was styling my pets, as I always loved dress up and accessories! My sisters was exploring and the mini-games.Now I have never played a Littlest Pet Shop game before so I don't have anything to compare this to, but I think the game is cute and fun.It is perfect for any Littlest Pet Shop fan and really for all ages. There are also a few other versions of the Littlest Pet Shop Friends Collection that include:City and Beach. All of the Littlest Pet Shop Friends games feature new pets to play with, enjoy, and have a story line.

I received this game to review it but this opinion is 100% mine.

Constantine Review

ConstantineI've seen several lukewarm reviews for this game on a couple Web sites like IGN.com and I almost decided not to buy it, but I went ahead and took the plunge anyway and I was really glad I did! I've read some of the Constantine comics, enough to know who the character is, and I liked the movie all right. Not the best film I'd ever seen, but fun atmosphere. (Keanu's acting is always a little flat but the movie was really more about the effects and creepy occult stuff to me.) Anyway some of what I really love about this game is that it feels a lot like classic survival-horror stuff like Resident Evil and it has a significantly different plot from the movie, though the major characters are the same. (Makes me wonder if perhaps the videogame designers were working from an early version of the script.) Either way, I really dig this game. Great art direction and level design, lots of nice explanations in the journal give you back stories on the demons and artifacts, and the music is pretty great too. Cutscenes are nicely rendered, though the characters move a little stiffly (but even that makes me think warm nostalgic thoughts about Resident Evil games past.) The Easter Egg hunts you go on to find the hidden bonus cards are addictive and the extras aren't bad, though I really wish it had included an actual readable e-comic on the disc or more interviews. The comic scans are OK but nothing to write home about. All in all, though, it's a great survival-horror game and lots of fun, though I agree it's a little short. (Personally I extended the gameplay by playing through again on the most difficult setting, which made things a little more challenging.)

Throughout the game, players will encounter terrifying enemies which were all recreated from the movie using original source materials as well as new enemies designed exclusively for the video game. Cabela's Trophy Bucks Review

Cabela's Trophy BucksI love Cabela's games. I've owned 3 Playstation 2 games (including this title) and 1 PSP game.

But this one was a really big disappointment.

The only good things are as follows:

-the graphics look much better
-the load times are very short

However, the real reason why the load times are very short are because all the levels (at least the ones I have played) are timed. The only playing option in this game is Career hunt. And while I don't mind career hunting, you don't get a chance to enjoy the experience or track an animal. For example, the very first level you have to down a buck in under 2 minutes. A large group of deer is standing right across a body of water directly in front of you. Even if you wanted to track and bag the best one there, you don't have time to do so.

There is no Quick Hunt option and no way to go back and replay previous levels. No way to really sit back and enjoy a hunt that involves tracking and bagging the best animal.

I'll be trading this one in.

Fairytale Fights Review

Fairytale FightsThis game is not that bad. It doesn't have mind blowing graphics like a next gen game should. It is sort of like Fat Princess meets Little Big Planet. I paid $60 bucks for it and honestly it is not worth that much. This is a $30 game at best. It is fun chopping up characters and skating around in their blood, but it does get old especially when it is not an open environment. The boss levels are a bit challenging so there is some hope. Unfortunately, you never really die. I mean you do, but you keep coming back to where you left off. There are 50 trophies to get, if anything that should keep you interest for a while. I tried to play online, but I don't think a whole lot of people own this game yet (nobody there). This game will probably become more popular as the price drops. It is fun and the animations are humorous so if you got cash to burn or you have a twisted sense of humor like myself then add this game to your collection otherwise rent it or wait till the price drops.

Fracture Review

FractureSince there are no reviews for this game, I've decided to write one for all the people thinking about playing it.Keep in mind that its been a while since the last time I wrote a review, so here it goes.
To start, I'll just give a number review then explain why.6.75/10
First off, if you like action third person shooters, then this is definitely a game to check out. There is a constant flow of enemies to take out with plenty of interesting guns and grenades that do some amazing damage. The terrain gun is used primarily for giving yourself cover and also to solve the many puzzles the litter the game. The game also looks amazing in HD, sights and sounds are great. The problem that I had that occasionally might ruin a game for me is story. The story just felt a little boring. But dont get me wrong, the concept of the way we treat this planet cathing up with us was interesting, and the ideas of what might happen to our country in that time were good too, but I just didn't feel for the characters as much as I would have liked. It is first and foremost a action shooter with the twist of a terrain deforming gun.So its worth checking out if this is your type of game.I liked it, but with so much more games coming out in the next two months, this might have to be one of those rentals.

Littlest Pet Shop Friends: Beach Review

Littlest Pet Shop Friends: BeachThis new Little Pet Shop game is super cute for girls expanding a variety of ages. The arcade portion contains really entertaining and cute games that help you earn Kibble coins to accessorize your pets.DS games are very hard to come by for my daughter since she is so young (4 years old). This game fits the bill for the youngest DS fan up to girls who are in the upper elementary grad level.LOL Who am I kidding...even I had fun with some of those arcade games. Some games include: a Plinko type game, Skee ball, Ring Toss, duck pick, and others.Oh and as a teacher I was pleased to see some sorting games, matching games, and sequence games....so there is a twist of educational value to the game as well.

The Con Review

The ConThe Con isn't your normal fighting game. In the genre's classics like Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and Street Fighter, the goal of every fight was to simply pound away at the enemy while trying to stay alive. In The Con, things are a little different. An interesting gameplay premise sets up for an out-of-the-ordinary experience that ends up as a decent game on the PSP.

The Con features a Story Mode that takes you through the life of a street thug looking to make money by gambling his way through street fights. It begins with a straightforward tutorial that ends with an unsuspected death that serves as a way to progress the story and throw you out into the actual game. Once you reach that point, it's all about making your way through the ranks of fighters, earning money by gambling on each match, and training or resting with the time between each fight.

The Con almost feels like the franchise modes found in modern football games. The pre-game setup can be just as important as the actual game, and that applies here. Training your fighter with different styles (like power, speed, and health training) will eventually make him or her a much better character and fights become much easier. Still, time management is needed, as too much training can lead to a fatigued fighter that won't start a fight with full health or energy. This all sounds much more difficult than it really is, and essentially the only challenge is that which you face in the brawl.

The fighting mechanics work pretty well here. Rather than play with the traditional sideways viewpoint, The Con is viewed from an over-the-shoulder angle that makes the fight feel much closer to the player, thus creating a more intense feel. The face buttons serve as high and low attacks while the directional pad and analog nub serve as dodging moves. There is no actual movement besides this, other than blocks with the R trigger and Con moves with the L trigger. These "Con moves" are what make battles interesting. As you gamble for each fight, you actually have the option to take a dive and lose a fight if it means that you'll earn more money. By holding the L button, you'll take bigger hits that will have the audience betting in your favor.

Of course, if losing isn't your thing, the fighting itself is easy and smooth. Some of the brawls I had while playing The Con were extremely exciting. The betting system allows the player to put on quite a show, whether that means they have to take a beating at the start of the match and come back or simply dominate from the first hit. If I was betting on a comeback, I'd take so many hits that I'd really risk a knockout and it made for a few hair-raising experiences. Sadly, after a few hours of the fights, the thrill starts to fade into frustration. The AI slowly goes from a pushover to a solid wall, and this ends up as a frustrating, repetitive problem that simply takes trial and error to overcome.

Unfortunately, the repetitive gameplay goes hand-in-hand with a few other factors. The Story Mode goes on and on while getting less and less interesting, the graphics and environments are repeated far too many times, and the music simply doesn't fit at some points in the game. Still, these things don't ruin the experience. The graphics are repeated a lot but that doesn't keep them from looking great. The environments are surprisingly detailed and the animation is smooth and clean. The music might not work, but the voice-acting is a great touch and the sound effects aren't all that bad. Playing through the game and strengthening your characters is a pretty addictive element in itself, and I found myself fighting through the repetitious gameplay to make my characters into better fighters. It was actually pretty tough for me to put the game down for a while.

I don't recommend buying The Con unless you're a die-hard fighting fan, but it's still worth a try simply for the novel gambling idea or the fighting mechanics. It's no Soul Calibur, but it's an interesting game that serves as one of the better handheld fighting games out there.

Finally, pull off a con and rig the fight by working the crowd to increase your odds and get paid off (win or lose). How you work the CON is up to you.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Review

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty CityI, along with many others, was ultimately kind of disappointed with the original GTA IV. The removal of the staple elements of the GTA franchise was not good; the side service missions such as paramedic/fire/taxi, the wee remote control vehicles, the crazy cars along with the mini tracks for go karting, triple stunt points gone, and so on... and of course the loss of the planes. Heck even give me back the dodo R*! It was a big surprise to see all that gone and not a pleasant one. But when playing GTA IV you kind of felt that they had more planned for Liberty City in the future. Maybe that golfing range might be able to be used, that skateboard park might come into play and perhaps we'll get to ride on the ferris wheel too at some point.

So with the release of TLOD and TBOGT we're getting somewhere. Now for full disclosure I played The Ballad of Gay Tony through first even though it's episode two, primarily because I wanted to base jump! And in TBOGT I can see Rockstar finally giving us back some of what they took away. You can indeed now play golf in that floating driving range, you can base jump off specific buildings as a challenge or indeed just buy a parachute and jump off anything you want. Tanks are back too! Rockstar are slowly making LC a more fun sandbox and I hope that continues with the release of more episodes. With regards to these two episodes, well you can't go wrong. Both are typical GTA fare with varied missions and great story lines. I won't go into the plots of each - do I need to? There's some nice cross-over moments in the stories though that will make you smile!

With TBOGT you have specific optional targets to do in each mission such as a time limit or how much damage you take. The nice thing about the way this works are the new very extensive mission checkpoints, something massively lacking from GTA IV. But there's a penalty for using a checkpoint - if you use a reload then your mission objectives aren't saved. You can still complete the mission and continue with the story but there's an actual incentive to replay each one and do better each time. It's a great game mechanic that satisfies both players who prefer to blast through the game and those who wish to fine tune each play-through. Nice.

It also seems that LC's code and graphics were fine-tuned somewhat because there's considerably less little glitches and popups in TBOGT over TLOD and the original. But do install the game to the HD if you buy the disc version regardless of which episode you play.

All in all very satisfied that I got my money's worth here. I'm now playing through TLOD although I still have some side mission (drug wars) to complete in TBOGT. It took me 18 hours to complete the second episode and I expect about the same for TLOD. So for about a dollar an hour entertainment this hits the mark. If you felt, as I did, that GTA IV was a step in the wrong direction for GTA then I recommend this compilation; GTA is heading back to its roots.

R* should also be commended for not allowing folks to play the episodes without the need for the original GTA disc if you buy the disc version (you'll need the original if you DL the episodes from XBL). Helpful for those of us who put GTA IV on ebay shortly after completing it!

NBA Live 10 Review

NBA Live 10I really don't know what happened this year.Reports claim that a lead game designer for NBA 2K left the company and is now with EA.That may or may not be true, but it doesn't matter...what matters is that EA got it right this year.NBA Live 10 is easily the best Live in the series, and I personally think the on-court gameplay is smoother and more exciting than the NBA 2K series...and this is coming from a HUGE fan of 2K's basketball mechanics.

There are so many great looking dunks, steals, fadeaway jumpers, etc, etc...the animations in this game are just awesome. The game is super-fluid and feels like it's running at 60FPS (not 100% sure though).I've witnessed a couple of awkward transition animations and some slight clipping here and there, but I can't recall one single framerate drop (and I notice those types of things immediately in most games). The tempo of the game feels just right, all the players movements are EXTEREMELY detailed and lifelike, the graphics are amazing, the sounds...WOW.I promise you haven't heard arena noise like this in a basketball game before. The crowd goes absolutely nuts during key moments, they explode during clutch moments when you hit a major shot, they chant "MVP, MVP" when your superstar is on a roll, they boo loudly if you attempt an ugly shot and miss, or when you on the receiving end of an ugly foul.

NBA 2K might have more player-specific animations, but I think Live is catching up quickly, plus Live's animations LOOK better in my opinion. The presentation is great, too.The pre-game warmups are all there, the highlights are slick and they're presented at the right times, the crowd and sideline animations are nearly as good as 2K's, the arenas are incredibly detailed, the players (for the most part) look like their real-life counterparts, and they even included the TNT Playoffs/Finals music. The game keeps you immersed the entire time and makes you feel like you're truly watching an NBA broadcast. The soundtrack is decent, just typical EA basketball stuff with some random forgettable hip-hop tracks.

The AI is actually pretty smart IMO, I see my AI teammates consistently running good plays, setting up nice picks, getting open when they need to, passing to the open man, etc on both ends of the court. That was one of my biggest problems w/ 2K basketball; many times the AI would just stand there until you actually called a specific play, instead of rotating positions and/or trying to get open.My only gripe is that CPU-controlled players will still randomly step out of bounds, but it only happens occasionally and it effects your team and the CPU, so it doesn't necessarily put you at a disadvantage.I'm also not a huge fan of Live's free throw shooting, since you have to hold down X until a meter fills and release it at the right time. It's okay, just not as cool as 2K's "signature shot" mechanics.

The typical EA modes are included, like dynasty, season, etc. There's actually a mode called Dynamic Season this year where you can literally play along w/ the real NBA season and update scores, team stats, etc. Also the Dynamic DNA is back so the individual player stats and tendencies will be updated daily throughout the season. It's basically a virtual NBA that you are controlling, and it has me pretty stoked.NBA 2K10 still has Live beat as far as game modes and options are concerned, especially since Live doesn't have a mode similar to 2K's "My Player", where you can create a new baller, enter the draft, join the pros and continue your path to greatness.I haven't tried Live 10's online yet, so I can't comment on that.

I bought NBA 2K games exclusively from 2K6 to 2K9.I haven't bought Live since Live 05, because I thought 2K nailed the look and feel of real basketball.I'm not saying 2K's game is bad at all this year, because it's still brilliantly designed and well executed.I'm just growing tired of NBA 2K in general, it's starting to become the next "Madden"...basically the same game every year w/ a few more polygons, new menus, some new animations, maybe a new career mode or season mode, etc.

This year I played both demos numerous times, and only one of them was making me jump to my feet, scream out loud, and pump my fist in excitement... in other words, this year's edition of Live had me totally immersed. It looks and feels like a brand new hoops game, and 2K10 felt like more of the same, just slightly more polished and refined. Some people will be totally fine with that, but I was looking for something different after becoming bored w/ 2K9 last year. For me, Live 10 delivered in a big way, so I bought it on release day and have no regrets. The game isn't perfect and some hardcore fans might still prefer 2K's style, but Live definitely took major steps in the right direction this year and unless 2K does something amazing with NBA 2K11, then I might have found my new basketball franchise.

NFL Head Coach 09 Review

NFL Head Coach 09This is the direction in which I always hoped Madden would go, giving the player more control and depth in running an NFL franchise.Scouting, salary cap and player/coach management, a solid draft experience, game planning - this game almost has it all.Unfortunately that also includes bugs.If any other game had as many bugs as this one, it would break it, but no matter how many times the game freezes up in the 4th quarter, I keep coming back.

No matter how much experience you have in football and sim games, there is insufficient official guidance on how to actually play the game, along with a very steep learning curve which may discourage the average gamer or football fan.It took me seven do-overs in my first franchise before I didn't completely mess up.Fortunately for those who like to read, there are hardcore fans of this game and external guides and advice are available. The best site for game information is, in my opinion, Operation Sports. The developers of the game actually read and respond to posts put up by gamers.Great community there - that could be a review in itself.

In general, the game paces itself nicely by having a constant clock/calendar running with only a limited amount of time to make decisions. My favorite part of the game is how much time and effort the developers put into the draft classes. To increase replayability and the connection you feel with the game, the developers have created four separate "draft tracks."You are put into one randomly when you start a new franchise.I believe a franchise lasts ten seasons. Each year's draft class has its own stars whose stories are told by in-game pop-ups from the menu screen by Adam Schefter as if it is coming from NFL Network. They've created stories for each draft's star players, going into where they are from, etc. Some are also based on real players (Johnny English = John Elway - same school, description, etc.).Long-time fans of the NFL definitely appreciate this.

When it's time for the actual draft, there is definitely a sense of urgency, even with 10 real minutes to make your pick.Do you go with the GM recommendation, or do you go over his head and pick someone else? Are you going to get the late round sleeper of this year's draft?Did you do enough scouting in the positions you need?Again, during the draft itself, Adam Schefter will be popping up frequently to let you know if a team's pick was good, a bust, or the "steal of the draft."Even stories behind the sleeper picks and the busts are here to add character to the players and dimension to the overall experience.Every time you make a pick and you hear the "Dadada, dadada" and Adam Schefter pops up, you're on the edge of your seat to find out if you made a good pick.

There are many bugs and issues with this game that can be a real pain, which keep it from a 5-star rating. Not everything was fixed with patches on either the 360 or PS3 version, but the game is at least playable. You need to constantly save in case of random freezing (most of which happens during an actual game). When actually coaching a game, it is hard to find successful plays, and even with an unbelievable RB and OL, I can rush for positive yards only once or twice a game. When simming games, stats are more realistic.Another issue is general menu navigation.Once you are in certain screens, critical information becomes unavailable and you can't cancel out of the screen to go find it.Also, with coach hiring/firing, you have very little idea of who will be available when you decide to fire or retain your coaching and support staff. And if you make the playoffs, all the other teams get first dibs.So if the owner wants you to fire the GM and you agree, you might end up with a complete piece of garbage as a replacement.

You can tell the developers put a lot of heart into this game, and I could gush on for much longer. While far from perfect, it's the best thing us fans of running franchises with real players may ever have on console. If you've ever bought a copy of Madden just to run a franchise and sim all the games (I don't think I played a single actual game of Madden 2005 for PS2), but you want more than what the next-gen console versions EA is giving you, then this game is for you.If I could pick only one game to play over the next several years, this would be it.

Press Your Luck 2010 Edition Review

Press Your Luck 2010 EditionPress Your Luck is probably one of the most popular game shows of the 1980s, but despite this, there hadn't been an official software version of the game for over two decades until Ludia launched Press Your Luck 2010, part of a suite of game show adaptations by the company.Ludia's version of Price is Right was relatively well received by casual and hard core game show fans alike (despite what some reviews on Amazon may say), so I was disappointed to see that they missed the mark a little bit with this release.

First, the good. The show's primary draw, the Whammy, is faithfully reproduced with over 50 Whammy animations. This includes some newly-created Whammys (mostly hilarious) as well as throwbacks to some Whammys used on the original show.It shows the designers "did their homework".The gameplay is nearly identical to that of the original show as well. The question round has been simplified somewhat to make all questions multiple choice (in the original, the contestant who buzzed in gave a verbal response and his opponents could choose from multiple answers), but other than that the gameplay is faithful. The graphics of the set and the "big board" itself are also faithful to the show, with two notable exceptions.

The first exception is that the prizes on the gameboard are all trips with a singular value. The actual show prided itself on giving away a variety of prizes, some good (like cars) and some bad (like Flokati rugs). The main tenet was that the prizes on the board were constantly changing and their values were a mystery. This led to suspense and strategy when a prize or a decision square was hit, because the contestant would not necessarily know the prize value in advance.By making the prize values static and unchanging, the designers have taken a huge shortcut that cheapens the value of the game.

Lastly, and this is undoubtedly a nit-pick, but the iconic sound heard when the randomizer flashes around the big board is strangely cut short in this game; it's only heard for the first second or two after the board starts spinning.Seeing as the designers went as far as to obtain the actual board sound used on the show, this is most assuredly a bug in the code.Unfortunately a format like the Wii does not lend itself to quick bug fixes.

In a nutshell, Press Your Luck 2010 for the Wii can be best described as a good start to reviving software versions of the franchise, but there's a ways to go to make it a completely faithful experience.

Womens Volleyball Championship Review

Womens Volleyball ChampionshipI am a volleyball player. Although the game is fun, it is easier to play the real game than the PS2 game! I think the controls are kind of hard to deal with; it is easier to play basketball or soccer. The designers should do a better job next time!

NASCAR 2008 Review

NASCAR 2008When I first got this game I was very excited. The game looked very promising with the Car of Tommorrow and the addition of the Toyota. When I popped it in my system though the experience was totally different then I expected. This is a very difficult game to play. You oversteer just a little bit and your going to wreck. You hit too many cars you get black flagged.I was getting very frusturated and was about to return it back the day I bought it.I'm happy I decided not to though. After about 3 days of playing it I started to get the hang of the game. The driving system makes you learn how to become a good player and once you start finishing in the top 10 it feels like you acomplished something. This is a racing simulator and shouldn't be confused with the other arcade Nascar games. The graphics in my opinion look very decent between the shadows and how the sun reflects off the car. It's all solid. As for the sound it's about on par with all the older Nascar titles so don't be expecting too much from this department. There is no multiplayer mode unless you go online which kind of sucks. The bright side though is there is a solid list of racers in the game.In the truck series there's about 10 real life drivers such as Johhny Benson and in the Busch/National Series there's about 30 guys and in the Nextel series they have about 45 real life drivers which is more than there previous titles. Some notable drivers are missing though such as Carl Edwards due to some licenseing agreements.Overall this is a good game but it isn't meant for someone who wants to pop in the game and start winning races. It takes time and patients but it pays off in the end.Once I finally got the hang of the game I started having a blast. If I reviewed this game the day it came out it probably would have been a 1 or 2 star game like most of the people are saying but now I believe it deserves a solid 4 stars for achieving a sense of realism such as in the damage department, flags, and the handling of the car itself. If you want a very realistic game of racing I suggest you pick this up otherwise if you want a more arcade racing title stick to the older Nascar titles such as last years Nascar 07.

Meet the Robinsons Review

Meet the RobinsonsMeet the Robinson lets players take control of Wilbur Robinson on his quest to return his dad's stolen time-machine. The game offers a good mix of action, adventure and puzzle-solving, while telling a slightly different story compared to the Disney movie. We enjoyed Wilbur's positive attitude towards helping and solving other characters problems -given that he needed their help in return, but still I always welcomes polite characters. The game requires a good amount of reading in order to use different menus, maps and instructions. The level of difficulty is easy to moderate and increases in the later part of the game. Overall Meet the Robinsons is good (but not great) single player Movie/Game, for kids ages 10 and up - even for those who did not see the movie. Disney's Support Website offers a Walkthrough for some of the levels.

City Crisis Review

City CrisisWell you gotta give the game some credit, for its orginality at least.I've never seen a game like this before with a sim city view as you rescue innocent victims or chase down criminals. Now for the negatives. The game has terrible sound. The same music plays repeatedly over and over again throughout every single mission and that "accident" voice gets really annoying (u'd know if you played the game).Next, on to graphics.YUCK!C'mon, the city looks like a mess of jagged lines. What a terrible sim. Then, the controls: HARD!!!Don't think you'll ever get passed the first mission.Overall, a good rental but nothing more!

Ultimate Party Challenge Review

Ultimate Party ChallengeThis game has a good premise:using the Dance Dance Revolution controller mat to play. There are a lot of minigames, but the graphics are terrible and the games are not fun.It would have been better if there were only 10 games and the developers made them fun to play with decent graphics.I think it's a great idea to use the mat to play, so I am giving this game 2 stars instead of 1.If you want a fun game that uses a mat, buy Active Life Outdoor Challenge.Pass on this game-you won't play it.

Rapala: We Fish with Rod Bundle Review

Rapala: We Fish with Rod BundleI wanted to play this game for a while before I made a review to give a fair review.
First of all, I bought the game because I like games bundled with little toys. I really enjoyed Sega Bass Fishing, as well as the Bass Pro Shops Fishing.
That said, this game is in another class. First problem I had was with the rod attachment. Half the time you're driving the boat, and it feels awkward with this attachment. Secondly, the nunchuck cord kept getting tangled. I ditched the attachment within the first hour. OKAY, now we're talking! The game's objective is different from any other fishing game. You must catch fish by going to a designated bubble point and fish. You must have the right bait, because if you don't the fish will look at the bait with question marks around it's head. So you switch baits until the fish eyes pop out and exclamation points appear around the fish. You reel in the fish, the nunchuck cord still gets tangled and you reel the fish in. There is a problem with this process at the later levels though. You must move the wiimote the same way as the on-screen diagram. The only problem is the wiimote must be turned sideways and then you shake it to the left or right. Moving the wiimote sideways and to the left is a very awkward and uncomfortable movement. After you reel the fish in, you drive back to your starting point and drop the fish off.
Driving the boat is another BIG problem. you must direct the boat by way of wiimote. the wiimote only turns the boat like 45 degrees. So what happens is you crash into barriers. Also, when you back the boat up, the wiimote seems to turn the boat the wrong way.
As the game goes on, you can unlock your Mii, but your Mii cannot be used in Tournament Mode, only in the Free Fishing Mode :-(
Overall, graphically very pleasing, but with all the aforementioned problems, the fun factor suffers.

Escape from Bug Island Review

Escape from Bug IslandWell here we are with a Wii title with the b movie sounding name of "Escape from Bug Island."Look around the internet and you'll see not one professional critic give this game a good review. They slam it for it's controls, sound, graphics, gameplay, everything.Despite all this, the thought of being trapped on an island with gigantic creepy crawlers and other icky beasts and being able to wack them with my Wii remote was just to appealing for me to ignore. This game has been getting a bad rap, and the complaints some people have with it are justified, but the flawsdid not get in the way of the fun I've had with it.Okay, onto the review.
Story:There isn't much story in the game. You play as Ray, and you have arrived on Beelzebub island with your friends, love interest Michelle, and show off Mike.I won't go much into the story, except to say you will eventually find out why there are big bugs everywhere, and there are no twists or big revelations.Pretty much straight forward stuff.Just kill bugs and get off the island. You'll find notes around the island from someone who was there before you, but they don't really contribute to the story, though they do offer clues that can help you and, it's neat to read about somebody elses experience on the island. The dialogue in the game, as well as some of the notes you read, is cheesy sometimes. Whether this was on purpose or not I don't know. Most of the time when people talk you have to read the dialogue, and a handfull of times, usually during an important cutscene, you'll hear their voices.

Graphics:I really liked the graphics in this game. Some have compared them to PSONE games. This is wrong. The graphics are more like an earlier PS2 title. This is not a big budget game like Gears of War so don't go expecting that. The graphics get the job done. The characters, insects and other creatures you fight are well designed in my opinion and look really neat. The forests, river, and caves you explore look really good, and is very foggy. It's hard to see far ahead of you in the levels because of the fog, but turning on your flashlight helps a whole lot. It's especially creepy to run around and flip on your light, only to see a creature a bit aways that you coulnd't see before. The lighting from the flashlight is really good, though don't expect shadows or anything like that.Overall really good graphics.
Audio: The audio is well done too.Only about five or six pieces of music in the game, and one of those only plays during the movie that is shown before the title screen. But what music is there is pretty good. You have the heart pounding music that plays when a big creature spots you, and the dramatic music that plays during cutscenes. As I said before there isn't much spoken dialogue, but the voice actors do a pretty good job.
While you are running around you won't hear any music, until you see an insect to fight, but you will here the sounds of the island. You'll hear birds, other insects, as well as the big insects you fight. In fact, sometimes you'll be able to hear the enemy before seeing it, and be able to tell what kind of creature it is just from the sounds it makes.I especially liked the screams each creature made when they died. Overall, I liked the audio in the game.
Controls: This is a slight problem area here, and can turn many gamers off.The controls are wonkey. But I was able to get used to them for the most part. You have to use the nunchuk attachment, or as Nintendo likes to call it, "Nunchuk Style"! Let's start with the nunchuk. The stick moves Ray. Push it a little bit and he walks, a little more and he jogs, all the way and he runs. The C button turns the flashlight on and off, and the Z button switches weapons. Now, Ray controls like a tank. If you are running and want to change direction, you cannot just run left or right. You have to stop, turn the direction you want to go, then run. You can step back and move forward, but no strafing. This is awkward but I got used to it. Though it did make dealing with some enemies a chore. Being able to strafe, or at least having a 180 degree turn move would have helped a lot.
The remote is used for your weapons. You'll get melee weapons like a machete, and scythe, as well as other weapons.Thrown weapons like rocks and grenades. And a handgun and shotgun later in the game.To swing your melee weapons you have to hold down the B button and then swing. While the B button is pressed, you cannot move, which means you cannot run and swing at the same time. Again, I got used to this but it would have helped if you could move and swing at the same time. Oh well. Ray doesn't mimic your arm movement or anything, he has his own animations so regardless of how you swing the remote, he will swing it according to his animations. While holding the B button and pushing up on the control stick, Ray will swing his weapon higher, pull the stick down, and he'll swing low. Letting go of the stick will make him swing at his regular height.
To throw a rock or grenade, you have to press and hold the A button, which brings you into first person mode and brings up a crosshair, press and hold the B button to lock your crosshair into place, then flick the remote to throw. This takes some getting used to but it is fun once you get it down. Same with the guns excecpt you don't have to lock your crosshair in place. Just point and pull the trigger to shoot. Also, you can use the nunchuk and remote to dodge roll left or right. Shake the nunchuk to roll left, the remote to roll right.

Gameplay: The gameplay is pretty simplistic. You start the level and you have to get to the end, killing bugs and other creatures along the way. But each level is pretty big and will require you to explore. It is very helpful to explore because sometimes you will need to find certains items that will be required to exit the level, as well as finding many items that will make things easier for you. You can find a lot of weapons by exploring. The game will help you find certain weapons, but some I found on my own. In fact the best melee weapon I used was one that I only found because I explored. You have a map, though it is only fully revealed by exploring. I was never lost and never had trouble figuring out where to go. Hot spots on the map mark places of interest, and these appear on your map whether you explored that area or not, so that helps point you in the right direction.
Another benefit of exploring is you'll find food. The game has a minor survival aspect to it. You do not get health packs or first aid kits. Instead, you get health by eating fruit, mushrooms, and canned food you find on the island. To get fruit you'll have to knock them out of the trees, and mushrooms grow out of the ground. Canned food is usually found in some of the abandoned cabins you come upon. Some of the food gives you a small amount of health, others medium, others large, and some fully restores your health.I was never too short on food, and had a good deal left over after I beat the game.
Fighting the creatures is fun. Every hit I make with my weapon makes the remote vibrate which I like. Some times an enemy will jump on you and the camera angle changes while they have a hold on you. At this point you have to shake the nunchuk and remote side to side quickly to shake them off. While swinging at an enemy you'll hurt them enough and the B button will flash on the screen. Hit the button when this happens and Ray deals a death dealing blow. A lot of times you'll hurt a creature enough to where it falls on the ground. It's not dead but you have a few seconds before it gets back up, and at that point you can stab it with a satisfying splash of blood and death scream. Each enemy has a different color of blood. Some are red, some purple, others yellow and so on.There is a handful of bossfights in the game and they are fun, and a little easy once you figure out how to beat them. The save system uses the typical horror game save points. Resident Evil uses type writers, Fatal Frame used lamps, and Bug Island uses lamps, and at one point a big candle. The lamps are usually in the cabins, but before you can light them and save, you have to find a lighter at the beginning of the game. This is easy so don't worry about not finding it.No puzzles or anything in the game. Just pretty much go through the level, explore a bit, collect items, and kill, kill, kill.

Creatures: I don't want to get too much into the enemies of the game, because I don't want to spoil some of the surprises for you. You'll fight different kinds of gigantic insects, like Mantis' and moths, as well as other non insect monsters. You can sneak by some if you are far enough away from them and have your flashlight turned off, but if you have it on, they'll see you from far off and come at you. So sometimes you'll have to decide whether or not to leave the flashlight on. For the most part each enemy attacks the same, they see you, come at you and try to kill you. But each one still has some uniquness to it. Some will just rush at you, others will walk slowly towards you before dashing at you. Some get close and jump at you, while others can jump at you from far away. So the game stays fresh with the different creatures it throws at you, and how you approach them. I have to give special mention to two though. One is the swarm of small insects that are attracted by your flashlight. Sometimes they rush up out of the ground, and if they see you, they'll come at you and can kill you in seconds. However, you can run away, and they'll follow after you, but perhaps you can find something else to get their attention away from you. These could have been an annoying enemy but they weren't. I only died from them two or three times, once was stupidity on my part. The other I have to give...Read more›

EverQuest Online Adventures Review

EverQuest Online AdventuresYou'll definitely want a keyboard for this one, but it isn't unplayable without one. The world is immense, and, unlike the PC version, there are no loading times whatsoever between areas, and no fear about your hardware not being up to snuff ;)
While this game is created with the interaction between players in mind, it isn't impossible to travel and play solo. Eventually, though, you will want to group up and make friends with people as you get used to the game and the areas in it. This way you can travel farther and for longer periods of time, and trust me, the world is large enough (with area expansions on the way after release) that you won't get bored with exploring it for a long while, if ever.
To add to the social aspect of the game, you can create guilds with other players, which would help you keep in touch with great players and mates. There's also a 'buddy list' option similar to an online messenger service, which allows you to add other players (if they allow it) to your list, which will let you see when they are on- and offline.
This game is designed very well for the first-time EQ player. The character creation process is simple, and once in the game it gives you short tutorials and beginner quests to get you used to the playstyle right off the bat.
Since this is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online RPG), you will run into a lot of people you might want to exchange words with... This can be easily done with either the on-screen controlpad-controlled keyboard, or by using any basic USB keyboard. There are pre-set statements programmed into button shortcuts for those who have no keyboard or can't type fast to give people quick answers, which is a handy feature, and one that you can customize yourself to say almost anything you want. Though people have said that it is nearly impossible to interact with others without a keyboard, I found that it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be once I learned the locations of all the keys and commands. For most, though, a keyboard would be a wise investment if you plan on getting this game for any length of time. Some players are impatient, and it is impossible to run and chat at the same time unless you have one.
This game is, like its PC counterpart, going to cost you money. Unless you have $10 US (tentative pricing) a month to waste on it, not including the cost of getting the PS2 Network Adapter (worth getting in itself, for the many online games that are actually free) and the game, then it isn't worth buying. As well if you don't plan on spending quite a few hours with it, then don't even consider it.This game is something that will take up a lot of your time, but if you are sociable and enjoy interacting with other people, then it is worth it.
I was just a beta tester in phase 2, and goodness knows I was planted in front of my PS2 for hours on end, and it wasn't even a completed game :) Think what it'll be when it's released.

Product Description:
The intoxicating, immersive world of EverQuest is one well known to PC game players, and now available for the first time on PlayStation2. As with a traditional console-style RPG, EverQuest Online Adventures focuses on exciting combat, questing, and character development. But unlike traditional console RPGs, EverQuest takes the adventure online (with the help of the PS2 network adapter) where you can adventure in a mind-bendingly detailed world. You create and control a single character, and your adventuring party is composed of characters controlled by human players from around the world.
The game takes place during the Age of Adventure, approximately five centuries before the original EverQuest for the PC. You will return to a time in Norrath's past, when the city of Freeport is still a new coalition of merchants, and the elves have yet to abandon their ancient homeland completely. To the west, Antonius Bayle the Second has recently been crowned ruler of Qeynos. In the eastern lands, the once great Eldarr Forest has all but disappeared, its trees withering away as the ground beneath it turns to desert sands.
The game will accommodate various play styles, from the occasional 20-minute session to the hard-core, hours-on-end playfest. EverQuest offers a massive seamless world packed with cities, dungeons, and huge underground lairs, plus unparalleled character customization that includes multiple races, 13 classes, skills, spells, and abilities. Character avatars have customizable faces, hair, and more. Online, players can team up and fight together, meet friends, form guilds, and become heroes. Multiplayer cooperative combat includes archery and magic. Alas, PlayStation2 adventurers and the legion of PC EverQuest players cannot adventure together, and EverQuest Online Adventures has no offline component--it must be played over the Internet.
EverQuest is a multiplayer online game you play via the Internet. A stable Internet connection and a PS2 Network Adapter are required. Sony Online Entertainment charges a small monthly fee for this game, separate from your Internet service provider access charges. The first month of this fee is included in the purchase price of this package. You must provide a valid credit card to register and play. After your first month, you can use your credit card to continue to play.

Buzz! Quiz World (Game Only) Review

Buzz Quiz WorldBuzz! Quiz TV was my introduction to Buzz Quiz. I fully enjoyed that game and found it to be perfect for parties, family events or having fun when I feel like playing a game that uses my knowledge against opponents rather than my virtual bullets. This year, Buzz! Quiz World has come along and instantly taken the place of Quiz TV. Buzz! Quiz World

9/10

The Good:
+ Slick new presentation with improved visuals all around.
+ Player Profiles allows individual stat keeping.
+ Much improved online gameplay over Quiz TV.
+ Cimpatibe with Quiz TV Quiz Pack DLC.
+ The categories are improved and many new game types.
+ Customizeable game types allows you to pick your rounds.
+ Buzz is less repetitive in his remarks, yet every bit as cheeky.

The Bad:
- Characters from Quiz Tv seem to be absent.
- Still no custom character editor.

Buzz! Quiz world does what few games can do - Please all ages and types of gamers and non gamers at once. I have played an 8-player game with children, teens, twenty-somethings like myself and older adults. Buzz! managed to pull everyone in so we were all crying foul as the current winner answered correctly. It is so perfect for anyone that likes socializing.

With Quiz world, many of my complaints with the Quiz TV have been addressed. For starters, you can now customize what rounds you play. Don't like the pie round? Now you can turn it off to make a custom game suitable to the group playing. Many people I play with complain about the Final Countdown round (which now plays the titular song by Europe) and you can even cut that out. Quiz World also features several new rounds such as Boilng Point, which gives the points to the first player to answer six correct questions.

Buzz now personally addresses player by asking you to pick from a list of names. It goes a long way and makes it feel more like you really are in the game and Buzz is more than just a virtual muppet. Also, this allows tracking of individual profiles, and Buzz remembers your tendencies. For example Buzz said to Kevin, one player who is frequently winning but had fallen into 4th, "Kevin, good to see you back at the top where you belong" after he had regained the lead in one round.

It's many of these small little details that really adds to the longevity and overall fun a game offers. At the end of every game, Accolades are given. It reports who was the fastest buzzer, who had the most right answers (which doesn't always equate to a win), who had the least and who got to pick the most categories just to name a few.

An 8 player game of Buzz! Quiz is a great experience, but Quiz TV had made it lite on rounds and features. Thankfully, Quiz World now allows full games for 8 players too, whereas Quiz TV only had 3 round 8 player games. This may not sound important, but it really does make the game more interesting to have it more than 3 round if you 'd like. Now you won't have 7 other people surprised the game is over already.

Another area where Quiz World shine is the online mode. You can now play with 1-4 people on the same PS3! In Quiz TV 4 people could play, but would all control the same character. Quiz World gives everyone control over their own character and allows up to 8 players to play online on multiple PS3s, or 2 if you have 4 players on each one. Of course, it still features My Buzz quizzes so you can create and share your own custom trivia packs.

The only thing I would like to see Buzz! add is more characters to choose from, or even better the ability to use PSN Home avatars or create your own character to use. There needs to be more characters for practical reasons too. In the instance that you have 5 females players or more, some will have to choose a male character. It's a minor gripe, but something they could have easily remedied by at least including all the characters from Quiz Tv. Where are Cave Girl and Disco Man?

Overall, Quiz World is much improved and a worthwhile purchase for Quiz TV owners and those new to Buzz. You will most certainly be happy with. For those like me who had a Quiz Tv, this is a nice upgrade that will be thourughly enjoyed!

SingStar Amped (Stand Alone) Review

SingStar AmpedMy family has a lot of fun with Singstar and we own Amped, Rocks, '80s and Pop. Amped is probably my favorite.

First thing you need to know is to not pay any attention the song list Amazon has on here, I think their's is pulled from the European version or something, I'd have to look. Someone complained about having this and not being familiar with any of the songs, do you live in cave? I'm pushing 50 and I know them and not because they're all from my "era" although some are. Typical of Singstar I don't think the songs really fit their version titles though. Like on Rocks there are songs here I don't think belong on the "Amped" version. Here's a listing of the songs on the US version.

Alice in Chains - Would?
Audioslave - Cochise
Blink 182 - I Miss You
Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
Boston - More Than A Feeling
Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me
David Bowie - Changes
Fall Out Boy - This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race
Foo Fighters - Best Of You
Free - Alright Now
Iggy Pop - Real Wild Child (Wild One)
Judas Priest - You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Motorhead - Ace Of Spades
Nickelback - Savin' Me
Nirvana - Come As You Are
O.A.R. - Love and Memories
Pearl Jam - Alive
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Queens Of The Stone Age - Go With The Flow
Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize
Radiohead - Creep
Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild
Stone Temple Pilots - Vasoline
Sublime - Santeria
Talking Heads - Burning Down The House
The Killers - When You Were Young
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold Lion
Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart
ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin'

IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey Review

IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of PreyThe IL-2 series of WWII flight combat simulators is one of the most respected and acclaimed games on the PC.Finally we console junkies get to have our own version and it delivers.

Birds of Prey puts the player at the controls of various WWII fighter and bomber aircraft on historically accurate missions from five theaters of war.The game tracks the air war in Europe from the Battle of Britain to the Battle of Berlin, by way of Sicily, Stalingrad, and Korsun. The locations are detailed and beautifully rendered, however the aircraft are the stars of the show. There are dozens of British, American, Soviet, and German examples that look great inside and out.Fans of WWII history will find plenty to love here.

Speaking of history, while the game is light on story, it includes videos that set the stage for the various battles using a combination of rendered footage and real historical film.Despite the fact that the various players in the game are basically nameless, the informative videos provide ample motivation for the struggle against Germany.I would even call the experience educational.

A cool new feature of the console games is the difficulty settings. The game can be as easy to fly as you wish, with the default Arcade setting providing an experience that everyone can pick up and enjoy immediately, and the Simulation setting that will challenge players to even keep the planes in the sky, let alone fighting.

Players attack various air and ground targets, while trying to protect their allies.Gameplay is engaging although not as exciting as 'after-burner' titles like Ace Combat. What you get instead is a very well crafted flight combat sim that feels more satisfying when you manage to send your enemies down in flames and come home in one piece.

By the way, the Ace-Edge flight stick that comes in the Ace Combat 6 bundle does work with this game.Works great.

Overall, this is the best game in its category.I'd recommend any fan of WWII or flying games to try this title immediately. Also, parents take notice: it's like the History Channel that you can play!

Madden NFL 10 Review

Madden NFL 10**UPDATE: MANY REVIEWERS ARE SLAMMING THE GAME BECAUSE IT IS MISSING FRANCHISE MODE... however Franchise and Superstar modes are present in the game, but have to be unlocked.I placed the codes to unlock them at the end of my review!**

Before I even begin this review, let me say that I have NEVER had a desire to own a Madden game on any console before. Ever.Until Madden 10.I am not a big sports fanatic, and thus couldn't care less about trades, drafts, seasons, stats... when I sit down in front of my gaming console I want hours of fun and competitive action... not arguing over stats, gloating, bad sportsmanship, etc.So I have never owned a Madden game on any console, and typically dread playing Madden with any of my friends, because I could never compete with them! Until now...

This year, I could tell immediately that Madden 10 was going to be something different. It seemed to be more designed to appeal to me.Dont get me wrong: I am not the WiiFit demographic.I am a hardcore gamer, male, in my 20's.I just don't fit the typical Madden niche. This year's offering, as other reviews have stated (and SLAMMED the game for!) doesn't include a lot of what the hardcore sports fanatics might be looking for: trades, franchise mode (whatever that is!?), create-a-player (which I would have probably liked), etc... hence their unfavorable reviews. However, that said, the game has lots of features that ARE APPEALING, and I am really enjoying the game. Here are the features that attracted me:

1 - "HUDDLE-UP MODE" - this is a Wii-only mode that sounded really fun and interesting.Essentially, it is a 4-player mode where 2 players (opponents) control the game normally.... but 2 other players (each on one team or the other) can aim their remote at the screen and, using the wii pointer/cursor, help their teammate out by clicking on the opponent's players, tackling them!Your "helper" can tackle any opposing player AS LONG AS THEY DON'T HAVE THE BALL... so if my QB is about to get sacked or if I throw a pass to a receiver and he is about to get tackled... no worries! My teammate can take quickly click on the opposing player and take him out!It is ridiculously entertaining! There was screaming and laughing all at the same time.I had 3 friends over (2 are hardcore Madden veterans, and one other Madden newcomer), and they had a blast. We have dubbed this mode "HATER mode".It really is fun.

2 - THE CONTROLS AND PLAYBOOK -As I mentioned, I am new to playing Madden, but I am not new to gaming. The "ALL PLAY" controls are still an option, which have very simple controls for people who may have a harder time playing with the more advanced control scheme.I play with the advanced controls, which work really well.In addition, you can select whether you want the "ALL PLAY" playbook, an Intermediate playbook, or an ADVANCED playbook. This feature is REALLY nice. The All Play playbook is VERY simple... even a child could go in and select an appropriate play. The Advanced playbook looks like a NASA manual to a newcomer like me....way too intimidating! So, I selected the Intermediate playbook, which has lots of options, but far fewer plays than the Advanced. My nephew came over, and when he selected the Advanced playbook, I knew what I was in for... an old fashioned beat down. But surprisingly, I was able to hold my own, since EA did such a wonderful job balancing the game.Typically, with a game like this, a newcomer would have NO CHANCE IN THE WORLD against a seasoned veteran (seems strange calling a 16 year old a "seasoned veteran" at anything...lol)... but this game has done a wonderful job bridging the gap.

3 - "ROAD TO THE SUPERBOWL" - Again... I do not care about stats, trades, franchises... in fact, when I first started the game and it asked me to select my favorite team so it could use that team's colors and logo on my home screen, it took me like 15 minutes to decide on my favorite team, since I didn't have one!So, obviously I would never sit down and actually play through an entire season.I bought this game mostly for playing with other people. So, the "Road to the Superbowl" is a really well done mode of game-play.Essentially, you can go through an entire season... or half a season... or you can jump in at the playoffs... or youcan EVEN BEGIN RIGHT AT THE SUPERBOWL.Also, you can start off your "Road to the Superbowl" alone, but other players can jump in at any time.So if I start the playoffs by myself, and one of my buddies comes over the next day, he can jump in with me and join me.You can even have several seasons or "Road to the Superbowl" saves.... so I can have one whole season that I am working on, and then create a new one that starts at the playoffs. This is a really well thought out way of doing things.

4 - ONLINE - I own this game as well as EA's "Grand Slam Tennis"... both games use EA Nation rather than Nintendo's online system. This means NO FRIEND CODES, and it also means that EA maintains the servers, ensuring they have the appropriate updates/maintenance, as well as that there aren't any hackers online. You can invite anyone you play to be added to your friend list, and it even has an instant messenger (I've never used it,but it's there). The online play just plain works.Period.THE ONLY thing that could have been done better is if they had implemented WiiSpeak for voice chat! This game, as well as Grand Slam Tennis SHOULD HAVE HAD VOICE CHAT!!!Other than that, it is perfect.

5 - GRAPHICS - Granted... the game does not look "realistic".But as a Wii owner, I have come to expect less than realistic graphics, and I am OK with that.I would trade fun gameplay for lesser graphics any day!I loved the art style used for Grand Slam Tennis, and this game used a similar "cartoony" style, and it looks great. It is a really good looking game. And the art fits the type of game it is: FUN.

This game is what it is: A really well done, deep, and compelling Football game. I am having a blast with it, and I think EA was smart to change up the formula a bit:it has tapped into a crowd that previously had no interest in the Madden offerings. Here is a quick review of the game overall:

Gameplay: 9/10
Controls: 10/10
Presentation: 8/10
Graphics: 8/10
Online Play: 9/10 (would be 10/10 if WiiSpeak was included!)
Replay Value: 10/10 (GREAT multiplayer modes forwhen friends come over!)
Overall: 9/10

Here are the unlock codes that, when entered at the EA Extra's menu, will unlock the hidden modes like Franchise Mode, etc:

Franchise Mode: TEAMPLAYER
Superstar Mode: EGOBOOST
Situation Mode: YOUCALLIT
Super Bowl Stadium: THEBIGSHOW
Pro Bowl Stadium: ALLSTARS
Master Code (unlocks everything): THEWORKS

What's a Wii game without a mini-game or two? With that in mind MaddenNFL 10 features Spotlight Moments, play-specific mini-games that occura few times during a game. Often occurring at crucial points, for exampleas a receiver and defender jostle for position in the endzone, SpotlightMoments are built around zoomed in camera angles and allow players toexperience the heightened drama of game-changing plays as action slowsdown and the outcome of a play and perhaps even the game falls to players'skills at button mashing with the Wii remote.

Madden Showdown
Madden Showdown is a 1-4 player tournament. Enjoy classic 11-on-11 football or experience the thrill of playing 5-on-5 in this quick, customizable competition, as you and your friends go head-to-head in an effort to become the next Showdown Champion. There are three major feature components to Madden Showdown:

Game Changers - The rules of NFL football have remained largely the same for many years with little to no deviation. Game Changers allows you to change all of that with a click of the Wiimote. Users can mix and match between eight different options, each placing a unique spin on the game.
Prediction System - Winning on the field isn't everything. The prediction system gives you a chance to predict the outcome of three different categories per game. To top it off, you have the option to risk your points in order to get ahead. If you win, it will positively affect your ranking in the tournament. If you lose, your poor decision-making could cost you the lead or dig you into a deeper hole.
Spotlight Moments - Experience the drama of game-changing plays with Spotlight Moments. During critical situations, cameras move in tight and gameplay slows down to allow you to influence the biggest plays of the game. During these moments, micro-games are created that allow players of all skill levels to experience and influence the game's most crucial moments.
All-New Genre-Defining Visual Style - Completely redesigned, Madden NFL 10 brings striking visuals to the Wii with all-new player models, larger-than-life stadiums, new animations and a stylized broadcast presentation.
